opie-mediaplayer2 on SharpRom
« on: July 10, 2004, 09:31:05 pm »
Hi guys,

For a while I've been displeased with Sharp's Mediaplayer because you cant fast forward or rewind within an mp3. So I set out to find something better and was happy to see opie-mediaplayer2 show up on killefiz.de.

Has anyone tried to run opie-mediaplayer2 on sharp rom? Ive got it installed with the following packages:

libopie1_1.0.3_arm.ipk
opie-mediaplayer2-skin-default-landscape_1.0.3_arm.ipk
opie-mediaplayer_1.0.3_arm.ipk
zlib_1.1.2_arm.ipk
opie-mediaplayer2-codecs_0.7-.3_arm.ipk

I had to: ar -x, and tar cvzf the last one to get to install.

Once installed, it starts up fine, finds all of my mp3 files, but crashes when I try to play them. Infact pressing the play button with no file selected causes it to crash.

Anyone had better luck with this package on sharprom for the 6000L?

-T

There is a package which works on any Sharp 3.10 ish ROM.  Iv been using it for ages with the TKC rom and now Use it on OPIE as it has all the codecs and in it.  Its can be found here:- OP2 all inc package site

Should work though I seem to remember it giving an error when installed but still working.

If you are wanting to view DivX movies then you will need to create a 8MB swap file if you are using the TKC ROM v1

Unfortunately it didnt like the 6000's Sharp Rom 1.12

I get this error when trying to start opieplayer:

[Install_Files]# opieplayer2
opieplayer2: error while loading shared libraries: libgcc_s.so.1: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory

I was disappointed with Sharp's Mediaplayer that comes with my SL-5600 with the original Sharp ROM.  Neither had I luck  in installating Opie Mediaplayer.   It repeatedly crashed my Z.

Although Mplayer works well, but the java player shell does not work.  What I need is  a reliable and user-friendly GUI MP3 player and I have enough trying various mediaplayer options.

Having insatlled Tkc MP3 Player for a month, I am very happy with the performance of the software.  To date, I am busy ripping my CD collection to my 4 GB microdrive storage with my Z.

Im not sure what to suggest.  Iv only had experience breaking 5500s and 5600s Have you tried installing the LibOpie package if thats not it talking to Flagar (man who wrote OP2?) might give you some pointers.

the java mplayer gui works if you edit the source  and recompile.

I think all you need to do is remove the -menu option in the mplayer command.

Its been a while since I looked at it.  Lost interest because I couldn't get mplayer to pause without crashing in Qtopia on my 5600.  mplayer works fine outside of qtopia.  Defeats the purpose of having a gui for me.
