anybody ever get to tucson from phoenix, or live near tucson?
what i have: hplx, debian desktop.

what i want: sl-c3200-ish with flush-ish wireless ip to desktop and preferably slightly updated other specs.  nice pims, gnu- or xemacs, unix shell tools, an apt-get-ish feed, and some type of disk encryption.  i do not want a phone.

why: linux (necessary), thumb typable (critical), smallish, lightish, reliable, big open source ecosystem.

I grew up in Tucson, AZ.  In the past the cheapest route was taking the Arizona Shuttle.

i am about to get an sl-c3200, but first i want to try the thumbpad and the display to make sure they are ergonomically ok for me (they are probably both ok, but i have special needs).  if somebody is willing to let me thumb type for 1 minute and look at the unit in the dark, then that problem is solved.

You might want to try going to one of the TFUG (Tucson Free UNIX Group) get togethers.  Maybe joining their mailing list and asking if anyone has a SL-C3x00 or clamshell Zaurus that you could see at the next meeting or something.  TFUG was a pretty nice group back in the late nineties when I was living in Tucson.

I'll let you know what I'm in the area, not planned my itinerary yet.
