libc6 update
« on: August 08, 2004, 05:26:06 am »
Hi!

I'm running OZ 3.3.5 on an SL-5500 and I'd like to install mplayer 1.0pre3try2-3.2.3 (from ipkgfind.handhelds.org).
This requires a newer libc6 version that is currently installed. I've had to reflash my Z quite a few times trying that because once the old version is removed, most commands (like cp, ls, find, etc.) stop working because they rely on libc6 and the Z becomes unusable.
Has anyone successfully updated his libc6 yet?
SL-6000W (Sharp 1.12)
SL-5500G (OZ 3.5.1)

Updating libc in NOT a trivial exercise. You will be much better off to upgrade the whole system at once - I think the latest version of OZ uses the new libc.

Otherwise you will need to upgrade busybox and tinylogin (at a minimum) when you update libc.

I've tried updating libc bit by bit. I failed miserably and had to reflash.

OZ3.3.6pre1 uses libc2.3 (and is more stable than 3.3.5 IMO).

I've heard (but not tried) that If you just want to run one app you can use a script to change LD_LIBRARY_PATH for the one app to point to a later version of libc (not installed in /lib).
