Opie Reader Please help
« on: September 06, 2004, 12:26:14 pm »
I have had a Zaurus SL-5000 for about a year and still trying learn how to use it.
I am having trouble getting the opie reader to launch.  I've downloaded all the different versions and cannot get them to open.  The latest version I have loaded into the Zaurus is opie-reader-0.7-arm.  I'm sorry that I do not understand the technical language that is given with all the programs and help files.  I now know that owning a Zaurus is for those who are very computer savvy.  The reason I choose this PDA was because of some of the features and not understanding that it is for the computer experts.  After much reading and work I can now use many of the features but would like to be able to read documents in the plucker format and I understand that the opie reader will accomplish this task.  If someone in Zaurus land would be able to explain to me in regular language (not computer lingo) how I can accomplish this task I would be ever so grateful.
Is there another reader that would read plucker or some of the palm formats that I can use on the Zaurus?
Thanks
LL

Which ROM are you using (Settings tab, system info?? I think ;-)

You will probably have to install a the qpe-terminal (is that the name, depends on whether you're using the Sharp ROM, but I assume you are) so we can get to the bottom of this.

Assuming you are using the Sharp ROM the terminal ipk should be on your CD. Install it and we can go from there.

Opie reader was installed by using the CF card and going into the install and using the rom instalation that came on the Zaurus..  This is the only way I know how to install anything on the Zaurus.  These are the only directions I have found to do an instalation.
Thank you for offering to help!

Install this file (using whatever method): http://www.zaurususergroup.com/UpDownload+...it-lid-64.phtml

I presume this will install okay; if it doesn't try to install this instead:
http://www.zaurususergroup.com/UpDownload+...it-lid-20.phtml

This will give you a terminal in the applications screen.

Once you've done this try the following commands (after each line hit enter/return to execute the command):

cd /opt/QtPalmtop/bin
./uqtreader

See what commands come out.

If there is lots of output, then rather than typing it all by hand, replace the last line (above) with this one:

./uqtreader &> /mnt/cf/output.txt

This will produce a file called output.txt on your CF card which you can then copy and paste here to show us.

If you have tried all the different versions then you have probably ended up with a broken configuration file. Once you have installed the terminal program you could try doing

rm ~/Settings/uqtreader.conf

to delete the settings file and then start it up again. The version you said was the last one that you tried should be the correct one for an SL5000 with a default ROM but the ROM that came with the SL5000 is very out of date now (unless you got it second hand - then you may have a differnt ROM installed and I can't help unless you can work out which ROM you have. Try

uname -a

in the terminal if you can't find system info.

Alternatively, JustReader also supports plucker and doc format. (You can find it at ZSI - http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/).
