KCommander and Tuxcards for Zaurus 760
« on: September 04, 2004, 03:54:40 pm »
Hi!

I made KCommander and Tuxcards for the Zaurus 760 available at the sourgeforge site.

KCommander is a file manager.
TuxCards is a notebook application.

To run them you need the Qt3 lib, which size is 9 MB.
The lib can be put on SD card.

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.p...ckage_id=128966

There are only very small changes compared to the version available earlier.
Both can be installed on SD card now.
KCommander can be executed as root.
(A howto is available in the help menu).

The Qt3 lib is the same, it is not needed to download it again, if you did it already.

THESE PROGRAMS ARE DESKTOP PROGRAMS!

Such that it makes no sense trying it to run on a Zaurus 5500.

They will work only on the Zaurus 7x0 (and 860) series with the 640x480 display size!

These programs are Qt3 only based. No additional libraries of the KDE-Pim/Pi environment are needed to run them.
You need only the Qt3 lib to execute them.
A precompiled version of the Qt3 lib for the Sharp Zaurus can be found in the file
Qt331_emb_free_lib_compiled_for_zaurus.tar.gz
Please download this file, there is also a hint included how to install it.
You can install the precompiled ipk-files in the usual way on your Zaurus.
These programs can be compiled for the Linux desktop as well, of course.

TuxCards is a good app, even if HNB is faster
A good app with a very good option : html export as "richtext" (with french accent..). But there is a problem, copy and paste function. I don't know the reason (lib QT3 ??), but you can't copy & paste from or to another qtopia (like zeditor or hancom W)
For information : on desktop, i loved FreeMind (html export in one page with hierarchic menu), but it is a Java 1.4 program.. not for zaurus.

I didn't test KCommander ... TreeExplorer and Midnight Commander (full Konsole) are better (i think).
But thanks fo this job. We need Zaurii programs..
As Ko/Pi, there is a possibility to compile TuxCards for windows, for desktop compatibility ??
Others programs are planned ??
Dreams.. Dreams..
 - KMobileTools
 - Treeline (another Outliner .. PyQt library)
 - QErm (database.. ??)
 - Kasablanca (FTP)
 - KBear (FTP).. too
... a light version of Kword   (only RTF and HTML export, no print support... another dream   )

Thanks to the Zautrix Team
(PS : a stable KopiMail version for the new Cacko Rom ?...)

Seeing what you guys did with kopim/pi i'm positive that the next release will follow without these probs.

Thanks.

All that problems are caused by using the Qt3 and not fixable, unfortunately!

The programs using the Qt3 copy/paste to other Qt3 lib based programs, but not to the usual Zaurus programs, which are Qt2 based.

Hi Zautrix, all,

In my quest for the perfect outliner (or a working one, to start with), you can't believe how insanely happy I was reading your message    TuxCards is great, indeed.  I downloaded it yesterday and I've already fully converted all my work stuff into it.

Just a few nasty thingies.  Whenever the Zaurus stays on and nothing nasty happens, everything goes fine.  But in a couple of instances, I can't access it anymore, despite the fact that it's on my task bar at the bottom.  Here's some situations:

1) power off
2) switch to another task when a dialog box is open (e.g. add a new entry & press "home")
3) switch to portrait mode

In these cases, I must open a console and kill it.  If I then click the taskbar icon, the TuxCards startup bar comes up again & TuxCards restarts.  Fortunately, I have the impression that using kill (not kill -9) saves the data if the "save when closed" option is checked.

Again, thanks for your great work, it would be perfect if this didn't happen

Peter.
There is an extra Qt2 based start program, which is started by the desktop icon.
That may cause the problems.

You can get the tuxcards app in foreground, when you send it the "continue" signal SIGCONT (which integer value is 18).

If PID is the pid of tuxcards, do a

kill -18 PID

at the console.
