Hey everybody, I recently bought a second hand zaurus 5500. The second i got it out of the box i had problems.

Qtopia Desktop decided it didnt much like connecting to the Zaurus through USB, and my computer has no serial port.

You wont believe the amount of time it took me to realise that although QD couldnt see it, Windows could and windows could also see the samba shares (I love you bill gates)

So then after doing some research i found Open Zaurus, and instantly did the "oh im no novice" and copied it to a CompactFlash card without changing zImage-blah.bin to "zImage" and thus had a wail of a time trying to get windows to see my other PocketPC pda, so i could rename the file (the pocketpc decided it wouldnt show me file extentions, i take it back william, you are a vile tempter).

Finally got it all installed and dandy. Oh but whats this? the Wireless Encryption doesnt work! Gah! So i look up an FAQ, it tells me some nify console commands, and nothing works. Great.

So i decided to plug it into my cradle and see if i could connect to the SCP or SSH server. Silly me. "Error, your networking device has little to no connectivity" < love for XPSP2.

So i UNPROTECT MY WIRELESS NETWORK and download the original ROM to a CF card and reflash it. Now im back where im started. Whee.

Someone help?

Update:

I put KompanyRom on it, and now neither the Wireless card NOR the USB networking works. Good job linux developing community, You guys outdid yourself, like taking an already fine and working system and making "mods", which are even worse than the original *COUGH* linux in general. *cough*

Those who dont understand unix are doomed to repeat it. Badly. I salute you.

All those things you mentioned are no issue at all if you know where to look.

Evidently you don't.

And there's no need to be as rude as you are being.
Sorry. I just don't have the time...

Well I am with Chaos. I have a 5500. I got that as replacement for my psion and it does everything I wanted it for. It needs a little bit work, and as my first 5500 did everything I wanted, I got a second one to be able to continue the work on it.
If you look at your Zaurus, you will detect, it is a personal mobile tool. And that is exactly what it is. It is not a PDA.
Maybe you take a little bit time, to get it work. Most of us has probably reached once or more times the point and just reflashed to begin with a clean rom, that is not messed up. I think this the normal business getting into zaurus and you can still go deeper.
I hope this hint helps.
Cheers,
Sam

You should try RTFM before you start experimenting!

Seems that most of your problems are self made nad the answers to the other ones are most probably here in the forums - hint searching is good - or on the page where you downloaded the fiels you flashed.

I did rtfm

I downloaded all the Roms i used from ZUG, except the OSPACK i just downloaded from myzaurus. I was looking at the british Zaurus site, and it doesnt even mention the new boot rom, (which was installed on my zaurus when i got it lol)

Linksys WCF12 doesnt work with myKompanyrom, and it took me a long time to get it to connect to windows using usb.

The wireless works on OZ/Opie but the usb refuses to work

The wireless and the usb work on SharpROM.

sharp needs to release a rom with x11, that would be good.

Come on blame us, the linux dev community AND MS instead of realizing you went in head first with your eyes closed.
We might help you if you just whined a bit harder.

Sarcasm is the lowest form of humor, but im glad you managed to summon the sheer magnitude of electricity in you braincells to shoot enough to your fingers to make them type something so funny.

robin - i don't know if you're getting on just my nerves, or everyones.

first off, reply with a proper title for this thread.... gah just doesn't cut it.

secondly, this IS the zaurus community. so I suggest you redirect your negative energy and blind bitching elsewhere.

if you get rid of this attitude, and try to re-state your questions in a more constructive way, you may actually get some help

otherwise, continue as you are and you'll just get yourself banned from the site.
