Sync Problems with USB & Wireless (Infrastructure) with
« on: November 12, 2003, 10:26:05 pm »
Hello all,

Recently i upgraded my rom from the excusable 2.98 copy to 3.10 on my SL-5500. I must say the improvements are nice. Multiple Wireless connections and mainly the management of wireless is a great touch.

I have found difficulty in syncronizing with wireless, in a Infrastructure based environment, which i believe to be because the wireless router holds IP .1

Dont know if anyone can shed some light on how to hardcode around this, without changing the IP of our wireless router/dhcp server/printserver/etc.

Another issue i would kindly request help with, is USB sync\'ing with 3.10.
As far as i have my tests have gone, its obsolete? and impossible to do.
Primarily i NEED to be able to sync my work machine with the Z, with features that the original Intellisync (1.43E) software included with the Z, which is the ability to map multiple, and shared (public outlook/exchange folders) to the Z.

Under the 2.38 ROM with the 1.43E Intellisync software this was possible.
I have contacted Zaurus Support about this lacking of features in the updated Pumatech Intellisync software and have not yet heard back from them (over a month).

Basicially, to summarize, i dont wish to revert back to 2.38, for i need the wireless functionality. I would prefer to use the updated sync software for the drag n drop file xfer util (altho if the older Intellisync software can sync wirelessly, i would still use the outdated software).

I do have some CF memory, so flashing the Z with a non-Sharp rom is a possibility, if someone has a working sync with a rom that supports wireless.

Just to clarify, i have configured the zaurus to network, and use the wireless, and usb previously, so this isnt (i believe) to be a small overlooked issue im hoping for a work around.

Thankyou in advance to all that contribute their time n responses.

To sync wirelessly with the 3.10 ROM you need to modify Samba to work over non-USB connections: http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...0over%20non-USB

You also must use the latest versions of the sync software that come with the ROM update because Sharp completely changed the sync and PIM engine.

Thanks for your feedback, thats quite a nice write up of the wireless w/3.10 solution.

My main work related problem relies on the functionality of the original Intellisync (1.43E) software supporting
shared outlook folders. Is there other sync software compatible with the 3.10 rom (or any other roms for that matter, that support wireless properly) that supports synchronization of multiple & public outlook/exchange shared outlook folders.

On another note tumnus, where is the 3.13 rom located? as far as i have found 3.10 is the latest revision.

Thanks again for any feedback

Sync software from Sharp is pretty limited. Although is appears that if you install another vendor\'s version of Intellisync that has the features you want over the Sharp version (or maybe it\'s the other way round) then it gives you the ability to sync your Zaurus using the other version of Intellisync. People have used this hack to sync with Yahoo and Lotus Notes.

ROM 3.13 is available from http://community.zaurus.com/projects/sl5500uss

hi,

has anyone encounter this problem.

trying to use intellisync (the japanese one which came with the c760) wirelessly between outlook xp and c760.

the zaurus would \"flash\" a message \"updating...\" then display \"communication aborted\".

wireless communication is working (can ping both ways and ssh) and samba is also working wirelessly.

settings on both pc and zaurus are tcpip advance and ip addresses are both 192.168.100.102.

zaurus has passwd set for root and zaurus users.

sync is fine using usb cable, but would really like to lose the wire.

Could be a Samba setup problem, if thats even how the C760 works.

Is a good document to refer too if this is the case.

I could only get this working with the pc ip address with .1 as the final octet.

To achive this the ap had to be changed to .254.
