javab0y kernel + bluetooth=crash?
« on: November 15, 2004, 10:51:25 pm »
I have been running on Javab0y's kernel on Cacko 1.21b because I like being able to use Kismet with my Symbol wifi card, and I like having japanese handwriting recognition. Recently I received my Socket bluetooth CF card (revision F) and when I inserted it, it caused my Z to complain loudly about the kernel being newer than the bluetooth module. When I did a hard reboot, a similar message appeared while entering runlevel 5, and my Z froze (even with the card removed). I had to reflash to get it to boot again, and I'm currently operating with no problems using the stock Cacko kernel.

Is this a dumb newbie mistake, like I forgot an important step of the kernel install?

The socket bluetooth module is wonderful, I can be online any time now (via Verizon's free (costs minutes only) high speed service (dslreports says > 56k) using my motorola v710 (will post more info if requested)), and since the bluetooth card is flush with the Z's case, I can leave it in all the time. But now I can't use kismet, and the Cacko wireless network setup utility leaves alot to be desired in the browsing department.

Does anyone have any suggestions for getting Javab0y's kernel to play nice with my bluetooth card? Failing that, is there some other way to browse open networks? The auto-join feature (using "any" network) is undesirable because often I find many open networks nearby, and I'd like to specify which to join.

Thanks!

Sorry for posting about this. I've tried Kismet again with the stock Cacko kernel, and it seems to work just fine using my Symbol WiFi card.
