converting Zaurus appointments into Palm M130
« on: December 16, 2003, 01:53:13 am »
:cry:it\'s been about 18 months that I\'ve been trying to convert the data from my two Zaurus\', a 3500 with full memory and a 5000 whose lcd screen is 1/3 disappeared into a Palm m130 via the Palm Desktop softward.
I\'ve got the Zaurus data backed up on the desktop computer, I\'ve got all contact and data files transferred, but I have ten years of Zaurus ownership - beloved Zaurus! - to transfer, and it\'s all data that\'s necessary for reference....
HELP!!!! I don\'t know how!!!
at the moment I\'ve sucessfully put it into .csv files in Excel but Palm Calendar doesn\'t accept .csv files.
ANy thoughts out there, any experience? I\'ve spent whole days and nights trying to figure this out myself and I\"m in Jerusalem Israel so I can\'t easily pick up the phone and the Palm sup[port people are too young to rmember a good Zaurus it seems....
Thanks,
CarolAnn[/b]

I am running Palm Desktop and Outlook on my machine at home.

What I would probably do is the following:

If you don\'t have Outlook, find a friend who does, borrow a copy of Outlook or use their machine...if your using a friends machine....make a new Outlook Data file (File-]New-]Outlook data file) *.pst file. The Personal folder should appear and then make a new calendar folder...

Import your *.csv files into the new Outlook Calendar....check all to make sure everything is correct....

If you use a friends machine, install and/or download Palm Desktop and the Sync Software to the host machine...Set your preferences for your syncronization to the Outlook calendar which you imported your data but make sure all your data improrted correctly in Outlook, check the field mapping...

Sync your palm to the Outlook file on the machine you are using...  ...then sync your palm to your own machine... all your data should sync normally

good luck and hope this helped...

Thanks, this is helpful but: although I DO have OUtlook, I can get as far as File-]New-] and then WHERE is OUtlook data file?
I also tried to import data from an Excel .csv file into Outlook Calendar, but when I get the mapping screen up, I can\'t get it to allow me to press the OK button, the OK letters never come up to be a clickable button. So II\'m still walking around with a Zaurus that has a broken screen and I can only read the lower two thirds of it. ANy thoughts on the Outlook? Tks! cab

File-]New Menu expands to the right, at the bottom of the menu you\'ll see the \"Outlook Data File\" (I\'m running Outlook XP)

or try this in Outlook....

From the Tools menu in Outlook-]Options-]choose the Mail Setup Tab, click on the Data Button (mid screen), click on the Add button-]Personal Folders file(*.pst) will show on next screen, Click OK and then if you choose you may name the file (not necessary default name will work), The next window will ask you to name the folder (Guest Folder works) then click close and then OK to return you to your main screen. Your personal folder will show up in your Folder list...

Then highlight the Personal folder.  Add a new calendar to that folder...File-]New-]Folder (give folder name i.e. import Calendar) and in the second box Choose Calendar from the drop down list, the default choice is a Mail folder. The calendar will appear in the Personal folder.

Open the calendar and then File-]Import and Export follow the directions in the wizard and then see what happens....
