So I got my cosmo yesterday, and it cannot auto rotate. There's no setting for it in the display settings. I disabled the forced landscape/portrait settings in App Bar. I installed Ultimate Rotation Control. I know all the tricks from gemini, which has been my daily driver for the last couple years.

I'm pretty sure they did this on purpose for some reason. I suspect there is a complication with auto rotate. Otherwise they wouldn't have hidden it from settings.

I'm feeling a bit burned. I emailed PC about it, and they said try disabling the forced rotation options in App Bar and restart. I suspect they were playing dumb, but hey, maybe not.

I don't know if I can stomach using it this way. Some apps that I use don't work in landscape mode. And there's a bug with App Bar when you hit force rotate. If you hit the the App Bar button, while it is force rotated in portrait mode, it will revert to landscape mode.

I also feel kinda bad for PC though. I mean, it must be hard trying to make this thing work right.

Welp, I'm hopeful that a software update will eventually fix this, but until then, it's probably gonna sit in my closet.

This is indeed by design. You have to hit force rotate in the App Bar to rotate to portrait. The way to go back to Landscape is to hit the App Bar again. If you want to handle the rotation yourself, you can install a 3rd-party app for this. I don't remember which one works best, but there is discussion about this in the Gemini forum.

While not autorotate, a shortcut Fn + Shift + R rotates the screen. By design, hitting the Planet key always reverts the screen to landscape. Shown on one of the latest PC videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbQQP59ULPA&t=98s

This makes one-handed (obviously right-hand only) use quite a bit harder than it already is (since the cosmo is hard to open with one hand). Ok, I have large hands, so my personal workaround is to

1.) Switch to Portrait mode before (!) anticipating one-hand use.
2.) Open with one hand (aided by other available body parts and being careful not to drop the Cosmo)
3.) Configure a fingerprint on the *right* hand for unlocking the cosmo.

Switching (!) to landscape mode with one hand is extremely hard (reach around to the planet key with right middle finger, then slide cosmo back and tap on "force rotate" with right thumb) and carries a high risk of dropping the device, because there isn't even a rotate setting in the pulldown settings or in the codi settings.

The OP said that "Ultimate Rotation Control" did not work and my impression from reading the gemini forums was that this was the tool of choice, so I don't know what might help here.

Left-handed use would require 180° rotation, which is simply impossible.

I have to admit that one-handed use even with my large hands is quite hard, because the cosmo has a large display and is quite heavy, but I find it hard to forgo in some situations.

Don't really see the point of even TRYING to handle the Cosmo (or Gemini) one-handed, but switching back to landscape should work like on the Gemini: It should rotate back when you tap the Planet key (bringing up the app-bar)?? Should be no need to tap "Force rotate"... Switching to PORTRAIT should be a bit more cumbersome, but the key-combination Fn-SHIFT-R should work on Cosmo too (I still only have the Gemini, as I have "ordered" Norwegian keyboard I suspect mine will be one of the later productions...)??

(I can confirm that Shift+Fn+R does rotate the screen on the Cosmo too. Though I don't expect to be needing it, as I only ever used my Gemini in landscape mode…)

You'll need it for the occasional android app which doesn't have any menus in landscape biggrin.gif

1. I do. e.g. When grocery shopping, push cart with one hand, check of grocery list with other.

2. Force rotate (which apparently locks rotation to some extent) is absolutely necessary for some apps e.g. Facebook messenger, if you want to react to a post. Try it with just the rotate hotkey and the screen will rotate back and forth while you try to choose an emoji.

Another really bad offender in this category is spotify, which seems to have a different preference for every activity, so it rotates back and forth if you switch between track view, playlist view and settings.
