Blue blinking LED on far right side: here's what it means (last post) Options

Hello,

as said in the topic, my Gemini shows a blue LED blinking on the right side, and I don't know what it means. There are no notifications, and the blinking starts again even after a restart or a shutdown and a power on. Battery is properly charged - 80% - , too.
All functions are ok, all apps are running normally.

Any ideas?

As you suggest, the right-hand LED is normally for notification; but I've had it get 'stuck' before.

In my case, I fixed it by running LEDison (Planet's app for setting LED sequences), playig an existing sequence, then stopping it.

(If that doesn't help, I'm afraid I don't have any other ideas!)

I get a blue LED blinking on the right when my wifi tethering is active, just so you know

thanks for the replies so far.
I finally got the idea of looking into the manual (well, who needs it anyway ), and there are two pictures (well, one actually, in two different places in the manual), which name the LED on the left side as "power led", the five ones in middle as "notification leds", and finally the one on the right side as "wireless led". Yeay!

Well, "yeay" if it was mentioned anywhere in the manual what this "wireless led" is good for. Don't you just hate badly documented products! Since it nealry never lights up, though I use wireless connections a lot, loose connection, scan for WLans, reconnect, whatever, I must assume that the "wireless led" provides some kind of warning. But of what?

To Planet Computer's credit one must say that they are by far not the only ones with that attitude, like "let's smash our product just in front of the users, and watch them trying to figure out what to do wth it on their own", which doesn't mean it's ok.

I think I'll ask them about that ominous "wireless led" directly, by email. See if they actually know what that feature of their product actually does.

it's a mystery why this is not in the manual, but the meaning of the led on the right side - "wireless led" - is this:
- Flashing red: no mobile connection, but mobile is on
- Flashing purple: no mobile data connection, but mobile data is on
- Flashing blue: hotspot on
- Flashing cyan: hotspot on, and at least one device connected

Still I have no clue as to why that led started flashing the other day (and I'm pretty shure that it even was lit permanently, though that case is not in the list above), and why it stopped again several hours later.

When I take my Gemini out of flight mode and have mobile data turned on, but no WiFi available, the "wireless" LED sometimes flashes purple a few times, while the Gemini shows a notification from "SIM Processor". That would seem to make sense, and suggest that the Gemini is in the process of setting up the mobile data connection.

For fun, I turned on the WiFi hotspot on the Gemini today and yes, "kontrollen blinkar blå"... um... sorry... the LED flashes in blue. When I connected to it, it indeed begun flashing cyan instead.

Somewhat off topic, that, apparently, means the wireless LED is actually an RGB LED and not just Red/Blue. That makes me wonder if the Caps Lock and charging LEDs are RGB too, rather than "only" Red/Blue and Red/Green. No, it doesn't really matter. I'm just curious.

The caps lock LED is only red and blue, and you have to set the 'green' RGB bit to make it blue, rather confusingly! The charging LED I think is RGB but the implementation of this is I believe vie the standard Android notification LED API rather than the bespoke Planet Computers route for the other LEDs.

Technically speaking, I'd guess the "red bit", "green bit" and "blue bit" corresponds to the first, second and third segment of a multi-color LED package. For an RGB or Red/Green LED, the first and second segments are indeed Red and Green, but for a Red/Blue LED, the second segment is blue. That is likely why the bit for the second segment, which would correspond to green in an RGB or Red/Green LED, must be set, to turn on the second segment of a Red/Blue LED, and thereby make it shine blue.

That sounds extremely likely but you would have thought that the PC API would handle to anomaly given you still have to set a blue bit for the bi colour LED! Not extremely but they probably didn't envisage others using it....
