I'll start the thread (and these new subforums!) with an article from The Register:

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/11/05/pl...o_communicator/

Interesting bits:
"We may do a version with less storage/less RAM version – and offer it for £399," mused Planet ’s CEO. The company now employs nine, including two full-time Android developers working on the apps. The K-9 derivative Airmail should be released in the next fortnight, and the Notes app will get voice dictation input."

After Planet's announcement of the new Cosmo Communicator, I have decided to open a new forum dedicated to it:

https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showforum=207

For now, I have opened subforums for the hardware, Android and general discussions, other subforums will follow if requested. Please open any new thread about the Communicator in this new forum.

A new clamshell device has been announced by Planet Computers: the Cosmo Communicator, which can be already funded from its new Indiegogo page:

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/cosmo-communicator#/

Attached Image

Compared to the Gemini PDA, this new device has a number of improvements over its predecessor, including:

- An external colour touch screen for call control and notification
- An external 24MP camera by default, with zoom and flash capabilities
- 6GB of RAM instead of 4, and a larger, 128GB internal memory storage
- The keyboard is now backlit
- NFC and a fingerprint sensor are integrated
-
As of now, they have already reached $94,782 out of the $200,000 funding goal.

Hi,

I’d just like to inform you that I have (temporarily) changed the #gemini-pda IRC channel’s mode to +r (registered users only) since we are now experiencing a flood of spambots in the channel, making it hard to use it. The situation is now apparently back to normal, but as a side-effect only users with a nick registered to NickServ can now join the channel. The issue with the spambots is btw impacting all the Freenode servers:

https://freenode.net/news/spambot-attack

We hope we’ll be able to find another solution in the meanwhile, to not have to limit the channel to registered users only.

Thank you for your understanding, we’ll keep you updated.

You can find it on Google Store:

A first review of the new app has been published on The Register:

Thanks to salvomic and kiko88 for the heads up.
