It would be nice if we had somewhat more recent version of Firefox sad.gif

I tried to compile it myself, but it didnt quite work when I run it. It was either abysmally slow loading or just hang.

QUOTE(CoreDump @ Jul 18 2006, 02:19 PM)
For starters it would help to know which machine you are using.

USB mice work just fine w/ SL-Cxx00, dunno about our other USB Host models, tho.
There are quite a few config changes required to make a USB mouse work out of the box.

Since you had a go at the code, I can tell you this:
Yes, kdrive is bugged in regards to input devices. In a perfect world it should work just fine with multiple input devices at once and transparently so.

However, currently only either the touchscreen or the USB mouse will be useable.

The input device has to be configured on kdrive launch (check /etc/X11/Xserver for all options supplied). Usually it is hard-wired to the touchscreen but that can be changed.

SL-Cxx00 has udev, xserver-common and tslib (and one or two more ) changes applied which allow a user to plug in his USB mouse, restart X and use the mouse w/o touching a single config.

Hint: If you do not set any input device on kdrive launch, /dev/psaux will be used which enables your USB mouse. And no, setting the input device to "/dev/psaux" will not work....

Thanks

C3100

Thanks, I nuked the X server with ctrl-alt-backspace with mouse connected and it works. I thought that login screen restarts the x server but apparently it doesnt.

The mouse works and the touchscreen kinda works - now it is in some kind of relative mode.

It works in kernel. Works with GPM. Doesnt work in X server. From my kdrive code analysis it looks that if the touchscreen #ifdef is enabled the touchscreen code completely obscures underlying mouse driver.

Does anyone know if it was fixed in newer kdrive? Mouse works just fine in pdaXrom X server. What X server do they use?

rgb.txt goes to /usr/lib/X11
you have to create the directory
it is hardcoded in kdrive, you can find the string in Xfbdev "/usr/lib/X11/rgb" to which .txt is appended

funny thing, rxvt couldnt find #XXXXXX colors but when i specified black, green, yellow etc etc it read them just fine from rgb.txt and i have colors working. maybe it is not a problem with X but with rxvt?

I just installed zd1211 module, ran depmod -a, plugged in my usb contraption device and loaded zd1211 and it seems the driver initialized just fine.

btw my contraption device is a small plastic project box with
5V 6800MAh external Li-ion battery (originally for PSP).
Tiny little powered usb hub wired to the battery
ZD1211 USB wifi dongle hardwired to the hub
some USB BT dongle hardwired to the hub
two standard free USB ports available
mini-a and extra power cable to connect to zaurus
convenient velcro tape to attach it to the bottom of zaurus ;-)

I have /dev/hda1 (8GB-128MB) ext3
and /dev/hda2 128MB swap

There is a lot of "cannot mount" messages when zaurus starts but otherwise its all fine.
After I added swap to fstab it is switched on automagically on boot.

Damn kids, grow up.
Instead of quarelling, work on the kernel together. Both OZ and pdaXrom would only benefit from it.
Can't we just get along?

You guys need a chill pill.

Maybe you should better talk about how to make it into non-ugly hack and maybe work together on 2.6 kernel.

I don't understand all this whole pdaXrom <> OZ animosity

Now get back to work and compile me some kernel! biggrin.gif

Can we please enable hostap driver in wpa_supplicant? it is as easy as uncommenting single line in defconfig CONFIG_DRIVER_HOSTAP=y
Wpa_supplicant tends to work best with hostap driver in native mode, especially when authenticating with 802.11x networks. Using 0.4.8 with hostap driver disabled I cannot connect to wireless network at my workplace.

I tried to build wpa_supplicant myself but I think I didnt configure the tree properly because it used gcc 4

Thanks.

Interesting. Do you have one? If you can get it to work on a desktop linux machine (ideally with a 2.4 kernel), it could be made to work on the zaurus.

Guylhem

Not yet.
I have to order it.

Btw, this is my latest experiment

- el cheapo small usb hub
- airlink wifi dongle
- trendnet bt dongle (pdaxrom 2.4 kernel does not detect it ;-() it works in my desktop and in my laptop though
- 512mb flash drive

unfortunately zaurus does not have enough mojo to power all these devices together

but it works in my Vaio U3

maybe I can stuff this into my Vaio!

I found an interesting device
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16833156046

Single dongle that does both wifi and bluetooth. I have downloaded windoze drivers from Trendnet website and it seems the wifi part uses Zydas ZD1211 chip.

Today I found Zydas ZD1211 based USB Wifi dongles on sale at Fry's for $8.99+tax!
its called Airlink 101 AWLL3026/NA

It opens up very easily. I wonder if the PCB will fit inside C3100.

I would be really interested in 128MB memory upgrade.
Since I have C3100 there isnt enough space inside for bluetooth, is there?

Hi 0xDEADBEEF,

Was thinking about doing the same upgrade to my C3100....

Have you noticed any difference in battery usage or performance???

Was it difficult to swapout drives??

How did you prep the new 8GB MD?

I did just couple hours ago. Performance seems to be about the same but i didnt perform any tests. The power specs for the drive are about the same as Hitachi MD so I wouldnt worry about battery either.

As for the preparation. I already had my original HDD repartitioned (128MB swap on partition 2 and the rest for ext2 on partition 1) so I did the same on new HDD, mkswap, mke2fs, mount and then
cd /mnt/ide
cp -a bin etc home usr tmp and whatever /mnt/cf
and thats it

Replacing the drive involves

- shutdown -h now
- unplug power
- remove the battery, cf and sd cards, stylus
- unscrew 6 screws on the back (one is covered by stylus!)
- remove the back cover
- be careful with battery compartment lock, it can fall of the back cover so place it back where it belongs
- unscrew 4 screws with -> arrows from the mobo
- remove sync port cover
- remove motherboard, be careful here there are two flex connectors going to keyboard and display, either disconnect them or manipulate the board with them and top half of zaurus attached
- on the other side of the board unscrew 2 screws and remove sd card reader
- remove plastic bracket that holds the microdrive (2 clips on each side of the board)
- remove old microdrive
- insert new microdrive (add foam pads like on original drive or something for shock protection, i used 5 layers or isolation tape, be careful not to cover the vent on the back of the drive)

- and now do everything in reverse order ;-)

thats it

I just upgraded my C3100 to 8GB Seagate microdrive from Amazon. It works like charm. Seagate announced 12GB microdrives recently but I think only for embedded applications - only with TrueIDE mode.

I got burned once when I bought 8GB Memorex microdrive USB drive and tried to use the drive in Zaurus - it is crippled 8GB Seagate, TrueIDE only.

I dont like the idea of full HDD install on 3100! Its a waste of 128mb and bad use af the HDD!!! ()spin up/down all the time)

128MB is nothing compared to 4GB HDD so it is not much waste. All the file modifications, log files, installing, symlinking and whatnot burns out flash and eventually will break it. It is much more mess compared to just having rootfs on HDD. Spinning up and more power usage is not much of a problem. I already have swapfile and most applications installed to HDD so it will not make any difference really.

QUOTE(adf @ Apr 5 2006, 12:12 PM)
I had thought you could install the rootfs package to the hd and chroot..or something like.  I haven't tried it.

I would like to see a different partitioning scheme, though. /home /var and /tmp really ought to be on the hd, or at least the option should exist.  Maybe do something lile a /boot and a pim data or something on the flash? A ton o the read only system stuff?  I'm Not at all sure how that would would be done, and clealry I haven't thought too much about it, but the idea is interesting.

This will only complicate everything even more. I really like the clean approach in OZ on C3x00, too bad the OZ package collection sucks.

It would be cool if there was option when installing pdaXrom to select whether to use flash or HDD for rootfs.

I have tried gqmpeg player. It is fairly simple and it seems it should be possible to create a 640x450 pixels size skin for it - button and slider sizes are definable. It even has integrated skin editor which is totally weird in use though. I tried to design my own skin but gave up for now.

xmms is not so simple to look at, but I find it works well once you trim it back to the one window only and learn a few keyboard shortcuts to play/pause/next etc.

Yeah, try adjusting volume with your finger.

I can see that pdaXrom for C3000 uses the HDD for rootfs. New OZ for C3x00 series also is HDD based. I really dont like the idea of /var/log on flash file system or /tmp being in precious memory. I think it would be great if pdaXrom always installed to HDD on C3x00 series.

Is it possible to instal C3000 pdaXrom on C3100 without changes?

I know there are many.
But what I really need is something simple, with full screen uncluttered interface so I could use fingers to control the playback and volume.

Is there anything in the feeds? Or is there a player that would fit the description so I could compile it?
