Is anyone here aware of what is existing Linux support for Cosmo Communicator hardware, especially mediatek. My main reason for backing up Cosmo was running linux on my phone. I am sick of android and its toxic software world and I would really be happy to remove google out of my life without building roms and wasting hell of a lot of time on configuring netguard/xprivacy lua, reversing apps that I would like to have but don't offer non google play payment etc., but I am worried the PC wont deliver this... =/

From the Planet website: https://store.planetcom.co.uk/products/cosmo-communicator

"Platform
OS: Currently supporting Android OS.
*Planned support for Sailfish, Linux Debian and Linux Kali."

I'm not sure what the asterisk is referring to, as it's the only one I could find on the page.
-----------------
Also, another webpage: https://www.www3.planetcom.co.uk/devices-specification

"Multi-Boot
Additional Sailfish, Linux Debian and Kali TBA"
-----------------
The Indiegogo page states
"Cosmo runs Android 9 (Pie) and also supports Linux OS, such as Sailfish OS and Debian, with a multi-boot option"
-----------------
If you can live with Android as long as it's had a google detoxification, see these two links:
https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showto...p;hl=degoogling
https://theonlypathispsychopath.home.blog/2...ing-gemini-pda/

I know these two are for the Little Gem, not the Cosmo, but hopefully we get similar efforts from the community or PC on the Cosmo software once PC have given us the hardware to play with.
-----------------
Hopefully we get some progress on these options with time, but probably not out of the box. I'm with you on the google view, and don't get me started on apple, microsoft, facebook, my local council, etc

[ Snip.....]

Pretty sure that Planet means that support for the other OS's is planned, but not available right when Cosmo's are first released. They are giving themselves wiggle room for when the first Cosmo's get shipped.

Hopefully, it won't be too long of a wait......as I use Debian on my Gemini and would like to do the same on my Cosmo.

If you have a look on the gemain github site you will see there has been some commits for the cosmo linux kernel. I expect that it wont be to long before linux will be available. I have no knowledge of when linux will be available and I am not a developer so I can only go by the commits I have seen. We some very smart developers that might have access to the hardware and I am sure they want linux working as soon as possible.
