To try to respond to your question adf, the Spoken program is really just a java front end for flite, the way I understand it.  I haven't been able to get flite to work yet so I can't compare the two.

hmmm.....  My flite was just a binary that I exracted on my sd card. It simply worked when invoked.  Maybe you should try a different flite package?

I tried elog. very nice, starting to record my experience with 6k into the elog. However, the latest version is 2.5.6. The binary you provided, which works very nicely, is only 2.5.3. Can you update your binary or Can you teach me how to make the binary for Zaurus.

I had a look at TextMaker and it's so much more full-featured than Hancom Word. Am using the demo (no .doc or .rtf saving) right now. My wife and I are editors/writers and we needed an app with full support for styles and formatting.

... but $50 is steep. Really steep. I don't know if it's worth that much, or if it's just better to deal with the shortcomings of Hancom Word.

As for software, I'm reliant on a lot of what's already been mentioned and linked: Kismet, Gaim, qpdf, KDE-PIM/Pi (with KPhone) and Kino 2.

Well, there are four ways I know of, from hardest to easiest :

- install a cross-compiling environment on your home PC
- install a native ARM gcc on your Zaurus
- access a ready-made platform made available by nice people (handhelds.org)
- have an already-equipped nice person make it for you and mail it to you

I have tried the last 2 ways myself :-)

Right now I am back on a handhelds.org Ipaq compiling 2.5.6.
I'll let you know when the package on my web page is updated...

(and of course 2.5.7 will appear the very next day :-)

I use my Z pretty hard, and I just recently reflashed with Cacko-lite and installed all my favourite "Best of Breed" software that I've sorted through over the last few years. My current app loadout:

Portabase - In place of a Syncable Palm Memo-like application. Are there *any* other options? Portabase works, but it's clunky - I really miss my Memo app

Bookreader - As an image viewer. Fast, resamples pics for quality. I tried the sharp Photo Storage app but it was slower, didn't resample the pictures, and I couldn't seem to get it to work in rotated view.

I'm dreaming of having images for my wikipedia, but it would be to big.  

BilliardZ is really great, I'm still trying to get a configuration where I dont have to move the queue after the first shot and where one team wins in the end. It's for school, where I can't really play.

And of course kapi, kopi, mplayer, konquerror (searching the static wikipedia doesn't work with opera at the moment), textmaker (bought it last week, waiting for my ir-keyboard), powermanga and xmms.

Take a look at notez . . might be what you are looking for.  Its worked as a memo replacement for me

Speaking of ZSafe...
Have you tried to import the textfile created by ZSafe into PWM/PI?  I can't get that to work.  I'd love to switch to PWM/PI, because I like the interface better on the C3000.  ZSafe doesn't take advantage of the full screen in landscape mode.
