Otto,

I've bought several of the theKompany's apps and overall they work quite well and they have pretty good support and email list too.

Think you can try out apps before buying....

I've used them on a 760/860/3000, and now my 3100...

HTH,

Mark

I've read with interest all the thread. Coming more from a business background, I found not much use to me on the more technical applications (I was probably a programmer in a past life, as I am "complicating myself" with a Zaurus), but found more and more business apps on your list. A couple of questions pop my mind:

1. What about Powerpoint, the viewer that comes with Hancom is very limited for real life business presentations. Is there any progress so far in this department?

2. I see much of the conversation do not reflect applications from TheKompany, I saw their site and it seems they have a lot of commercial applications. Is there any specific reason it is not mentioned here. In their site, they mention the SL-5500 which I have, but what about other models?

Stuff I use frequently:  QPSword

Question, please?

Why QPSword vs JSword?

Is QPSword better?

Will JSword run on the C1000?  (I know it requires Java which appears to be OK: http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/custom.html#java )

What is the process of loading either QPSword or JSword on a C1000, please?

I really need to get one or the other loaded and running asap.

Thanks!  doc

I have QPSword running on my C1000 but am not real happy with the way it looks and
it is quite old (2003).

JSword seems to be more current.

Will have to see to Java and then try JSword.

In testing OpenZaurus 3.5.4, I also ran across Dagger from the Sword project. Its available from the Sword project web page as well as in the OZ 3.5.3 feeds.

The interface is much improved over QPsword. although admit that I haven't tried JSword.

Which version would you recommend for the C1000?

Download

Source code

    * dagger-0.9.3.tar.bz2

Binary packages for OpenZaurus 3.5.3 or Familiar 0.8.2

For StrongArm-based devices (iPaq 36xx/37xx, Zaurus 5500, etc.)

    * Sword v1.5.8
    * Dagger v0.9.3

For XScale-based devices (Zaurus C7x0/8x0, 6000, etc.)

    * Sword v1.5.8
    * Dagger v0.9.3

Also, is there any reason to believe that JSword would not run on the C1000
based on what you see in the Java available to the C1000 and the requirements
of JSword?

Absolute must:

KTrove. Surprised not to see this app in the list. Let you install applications in your card that run only in main memory. (not all but many) and yes i works.

ZEditor. Absolute must, try other text editors too limited. simple, fast, can access any file. Maybe the app I use the most. Thanks!

ZBEDic. Amazing dictionary tool, the amount of available dictionaries is great.

ZSolitaire. I still enjoy simple games while waiting.

zKnights. Cool chess

Now as a developer I like:

apache2-php5-mysqlclient package. Let me test what i code in ZEditor

The embended SQLite database in PHP is great, lots of power, I stopped using mysql which anyway was an old version.

For videos, music, images, docs etc.. I just use the ones that came with full cacko 1.23 (have a c1000) excelent stuff

- I used to use ktrove, but found it more limiting than just copying the files and softlinking them myself, which is all this is doing, but with a script.  Or at least the version I used.  (grin)  I've also found that with Cacko's nearly 100MB main storage free (on a C1K) that I haven't needed to run as many things (read: none so far) from the SD card.
- I did, however, extensively softlink libraries and suchlike to SD with Cricket, my old SL-5500.  Cricket simply wasn't usable without "installing" to SD 'cause there wasn't enough space on that little guy.  I got every single thing except nethack to run from SD by manually softlinking, about 60MB of software, and kept nearly 12MB free in main storage for operational space.  I never uninstalled any of that stuff, anyway, so it didn't matter that there were no scripts to help out in that regard.
- Just my half nibble...

Depends on what you mean by success.  It seems to work on my C1000, but it's so slow that I haven't attempted much with it.

It doesn't seem to do anything on my SL-C1000 (Running Cacko)

http://futureboy.homeip.net/frinkdocs/ reports:

Sharp Zaurus (despite the filename, this isn't ARM-processor specific--it's pure Java, and might work on other platforms that use the .ipk package format.) Note: I need help testing and improving this installation package. Please contact Alan Eliasen if you have experience with Zaurus installer packages. Hint for helpers: an .ipk file is just a .tar.gz  file, so you can open it up and poke around, but I don't have a Zaurus to test on.

I don't have any useful output, so I can't help.. but if others can do more useful testing, then it sounds like it could help.

A separate thread talking about the application would probably be best.
