I'm going to try and install the Babbletower dictionary in on SL-C3000. Has anyone tried it yet?

It requires Java, which the SL-3000 doesn't come with by default.

It looks similar to eDict, which should work on the SL-3000 and doesn't require Java.

Have any one succeded in installing and using babbletower? This thread seems to be dead since a long time, and no one else appear to talk about babbeltower anywhere else on our OESF forum...

Thanks Meanie,

I'll try for sure. I have gone through the installation of babbletower on my PC and it works well. I have been able to add my own words to an existing disctionary. So I am very close to be able to build my own one.

I'll let you know if babbletower works on my C3000.

All right. I've installed the packaged you mentioned from your web site and it works. I've also been able to search for the dictionary I've created on my PC.

For those who wish to do it as well, you also need

Just install each package, you'll get the "B" icon on your desktop that can be launched as any other apps.
Note that the package for BT contains the EDICT dictionary (I was wondering why the package was so heavy compared to the PC version)

Babbletower is actually good, I wonder why it is not mentionned more on the forum, especially because it seems a lot of us were (are still) looking for ways to produce their own dictionaries.

Thanks again Meanie. I forgot to ask you (just came back to the message and edit it): does the keyboard works for you to input Japanese? It doesn't for me, so I have to use handwriting. If not, do you know why?

What do you mean the keyboard does not input Japanese?  Is it just for the Babbletower or everywhere?  The stock Sharp rom has all the Japanese input methods.

it may be a problem with personal profile's awt input routine. i haven't had time to investigate it yet. maybe it works with jeode. anyway, what i could do was type the japanese words into the texteditor and then cut and paste into babbletower

Have any one been able to run babbletower with blackdown JVM? I've installed java from Meanie's java.cramfs under XQT, but babbletower wouldn't start.

What is the advantage between using this dictionary over zten or zbdic besides being able to modify the dictionary?

I find it more flexible than zten and zbdic, but I have to say that I haven't investigated much those.
By flexible I mean you can change your fonts, dictionary format, select the encoding, change the window size...

It is nice also to be able to run it on your PC also. In the dictionary properties you can create a profile for your Z and one for your PC, and use exactly the same version on both platforms, just changing the option upon execution.

Now, I still can't have it run with blackdown! Would you have by chance installed the java.cramfs from Meanie?
Does any one have and what do you need to do to make it work? I installed it together with XQt with ./xqt-install but no java apps will start (java is not even a known command).

Thanks for any help on this!
