Wellenreiter Lockups?
« on: February 01, 2005, 02:09:02 am »
I have a 5600 with an Ambicom WL1100 wifi card. I've been playing around with Wellenreiter in OZ 3.5.2 and keep running into occasional lockups. I don't have the wireless applet installed (at least I don't think so).

I don't think I'm running out of memory. Once the lockup occurs, I have to do a reset to get out of it. The gui is frozen and none of the keys is active.

Anybody else have this problem?

Thx,

I've had the same problem with a Netgear MA701 card.  Wellenreiter is installed on my SD card.  Not sure if this is what causes the lockups.  I don't have wireless applet installed.

Yea Dino, I am having the same problem.  I also have the exact same network card as you, that netgear, and I have Wellenreiter installed on my SD also.  I am guessing it is the SD causing the problems, because it seems to happen more when tons of packets are being captured.

Also, dino do you notice that the netgear kills your battery or is it just me?

Thanks if anyone finds a solution to this.

I think its the card, my MA701 gets hot and stops working, I have to take it out and let it cool down before it works again.

My Netgear card finally died on me.  It got to where I had to push on it before it would be recognized as anything other than "anonymous memory."  I'm using a Pretec card now and if I remember correctly it still froze.  There dosen't seem to be any correlation to heavy packet captures.  I did get kismet working with this card which I was unable to with the Netgear.  Kismet has not froze my system yet.

Well, I just discovered that the lockups with Wellenreiter are due to my Z running out of memory.

Memory starts getting consumed when I start 'sniffing'. As packets come in I can see that free memory is dropping.  I only have about 8 MB before starting Wellenreiter and it starts dropping quickly. The memory is only freed when I exit the app. Disabling packet logging had no influence on the memory consumption.

Has anyone else had problems with this?

I've seen it on OZ/Opie 3.5.3 too.

Still looking for a fix, but information seems to be sparse.
