Hi there!

Everybody please check http://users.ox.ac.uk/~scat1139/oz/index.html , which is the current page for the OpenZaurus Documentation Project. Please read the docs (even, or especially, if you don't need them) and give feedbacks and comments in this thread. Everything's appreciated!!!

Cheers
Philipp

http://users.ox.ac.uk/~scat1139/oz/today.html
=============================================

> OpenZaurus 3.5.2 contains Opie today 1.1.7 as well as the plugins for the datebook, the todolist and the addressbook in its default installation. All are available as separate packages.

state that other plug-ins are available in the feed (atm) - for example a weather plugin, a stock-ticker, a fortune cookie plug-in, etc.

Also state that these are easy to write (so get writing people!). Perhaps give a link to the source (in CVS or a tarball) so people can see how easy it is (tarball might be good then Sharp ROM developers could also start writing as they have a version of opie-today I think).

> wrench in the upper right (right besides the dinosaur)

Perhaps change to make it a bit clearer still: wrench in the upper right (just below and to the left of the dinosaur)

http://users.ox.ac.uk/~scat1139/oz/addressbook.html
===================================================

> "Export vcard" will export you whole addressbook into one vCard file.

can it also do just one entry at a time?

> "My personal data" lets you enter your personal data (this is called the "business card" in some other applications).

and it's actually stored in a vcf file so it is in fact a business card.

> If you click on the search button, this text field will appear where you can search for contacts. It is very rudimentary (searching for "ea" or "Ea" won't return "Earl"), and most of the times it will be easier just to scroll down the list of contacts with the bar.

not all that useful then - I wonder whether it handles ?* etc.

looks like it does (looking at the config settings) - perhaps search is in fact too sophisticated for most. Worth mentioning the use of the * and ? operators though even if regular experssions are a little too complex to explain.

========================================================

> You can select the following styles:

my understanding is that KDE 3.x styles/themes/? are drop-in compatible for opie (there's a page on the OE wiki about this iirc)
This should be mentioned here IMO

> In the inferior window you will see the previsualization

Window at the bottom rather than inferior - different meaning in English to that which you're looking for

might be better with English screenshots rather than Spanish - anyone able to provide some?

> Image: the image must have the same resolution of your device so that it is seen or (320x240 or 640x480).

hmm, not sure about this - I think opie does scaling and tiling if the image is too large/small

There are a few grammatical errors and typos too, but nothing too bad and they are all very good efforts

Keep up the good work!

I wrote the appearance guide. I have create new screen shots for English and Spanish languages. I will write the second version of the guide this week.

I will send the new version when I finish revision.

Hey lardman, many thanks for you valuable feedback! I already made some changes, but am still finding out stuff about those new plugins (love fortune, gotta get that one working ) I didn't know about.

Do you have a link? I couldn't find the source for just the plugins themselves on opie.handhelds.org.

I applaud the effort for more documentation, but why the choice to not use the existing OESF Wiki?

Mainly because it was locked when this started; I'd not realised it was open again.

Pyrates: Are you interested in moving the whole thing into the wiki or happy as you are?

Yeah, why not. But I'd have to ask Philip (the guy who started the whole thing) about his opinion and stuff, but I think using the wiki is a good idea.

I'm not at home for at least 2 weeks. maybe more. I'll migrate the stuff to the wiki after that (if no one else does it before me ), and probably just work in the wiki after that. But as I said, I feel like Philip is the coordinator of the efforts, so I'd rather ask him first.

Cheers

Refresh does something. I don't know what, andybody?

There's a spelling error there, and although I haven't tested this myself, I think it's fairly safe to assume that Refresh does just what it sounds like, which is to refresh the Today screen every x seconds. If the Today screen is open at midnight, for example, the Today screen will refresh and show the new, correct date. That's what seems very likely to me, at least.
