Oz 3.5.3 Gpe-image

I have just installed the OZ/GPE rom but I cannot get my socket wireless card to work.
It seems that the spectrum_cs driver is missing from the rom.
Also, I couldn't find it in the feeds.
My zaurus is the c860.

Did anyone else got this to work? Did the driver name change?
I am surprise that no one else wouldn't have noticed since this card is pretty common.

I forgot to mention that the card is working fine.
I just had it working with the 3.5.3 OZ/OPIE without trouble.
But, I wanted to try GPE. It looks pretty nice so far but not being able to get wireless to work is a major problem.

Thanks
Joao

Hi,

I believe it was kernel 2.6. I didn't check and I now installed pdaxrom.
I needed to get it to work asap. The card is working fine with pdaxrom.

I was using the boxer image from
[a href=\"http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.3/c7x0,c8x0/gpe/]http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstabl.../c7x0,c8x0/gpe/[/url]

I liked gpe so I will might give it another go once this is fixed. But, pdaxrom is very nice also.
BTW, can OZ/GPE run out of the box, X applications like firefox, gimp, thunderbird, xemacs, etc?
I also really like the kdepim applications and couldn't install that (easily) on GPE.
Will these be "supported" at some point?

Cheers,
Joao

OZ/GPE can run all those apps out of the box, although I'm still strugglingg with adding the gimp to the buildsystem. I also poked the kde-using people to update the kde apps in OE.

Oh! But that is this forum:
OE Forums > ROMs, Development, and Model Specific Forums > ROMs Support and Discussion > OZ/GPE

I guess the point is that we should start a new thread in the Forum!
I will do that from now on!

Thanks for the answers btw.

Yes. the reason for the confusion is that the OZ part of the forum was recently split into 'common', 'opie' and 'gpe' sections. This thread was in 'common' immediately after the split and was then moved here.

As I've seen mentioned elsewhere, GPE's /etc/ipkg.conf is missing references to *any* src's. I've also seen posts about adding both the gnome & machine feeds. So what feeds should be included (or another asked another way, what feeds shouldn't be, such as opie (obviously )? thks

src's are now generally placed in their own conf file in /etc/ipkg/, you ought to have some in there.

although the opie-image.bb contains some code to merge them into /etc/ipkg.conf to stop aqpkg from breaking. It's one of the unexpected differences between the opie-basesystem and the others.

ok, now that makes sense. I couldn't figure out why GPE & OPIE would be different at his level. Thanks for clearing that up.

Is any of this documented anywhere? I keep seeing references to the release notes, but there's not much off the gpe.hanhelds.org site.

Thanks for the replies. The wifi issue is not really a bug, just lack of documentation. The card is not automatically recognized so I had to select a driver. How to do those things is not immediately clear but I figured them out with some poking around.[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=74684\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I'm still poking around & haven't been able to get my connection working. Any clues for a SMC2624? Where to get drivers? How to tell what driver I need? And how do I load the driver after I've got it?  thks

Has anybody else noticed that their Z is running really HOT running GPE? I never noticed that with OPIE. is there something different with apm for GPE that could be causing it?

Yes, I found the same thing.  I thought maybe it had something to do with the wifi card being in.
