I just want to say thanks for this great app!
Today I finally migrated from Opie-PIM to kde-pim/pi 2.1.5 and I'm impressed :-)
It's much more progressed since the earlier versions I tried and I will use ko/pi and ka/pi as my primary PIM now :-)

You want 2.1.4 in a production environment. 2.15 is the test version (right now with little-tested multiple resource support). Glad you like it, though.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=84308\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

No, 2.1.5 is stable, 2.1.6 is testing.

I'm an idiot. I was running 2.1.5 as well, you'd think I'd know better

So this brings me to my next issue.... KO/Pi on the Z always runs out of memory during PI-Sync.  I get a "memory is low choose an app to close" dialog with only KO/Pi listed in it and then my Z either reboots, or I have to close KO/Pi.  I'm on a 5500 with the 3.1x Sharp ROM, so I'm stuck at 32/32 memory.  I removed some apps from my system, but I suppose that only removed them from the ramdisk, not the program heap.  Am I just stuck not being able to sync my calendar using a 32M image?

Where did you start the sync?
I assume from the Z?
If you start it from the Desktop it should not need too much memory on the Z.

This could be me but I've noticed a problem with repeating appointments that are set up in Outlook (2003) and then synch them to KO/PI.  When they show up on KO/PI, they are one occurance too few.  For example, I scheduled a recurring Friday afternoon meeting starting today and running through 6/24 (3 Fridays).  When I synch and then look at KO, it shows a meeting for today and next Friday but not 6/24.  I see the same problem with meetings that repeat daily too (always one short).

Anyone else notice this?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=83805\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

What did you do?
Sync Outlook <-> Sharp PIM and then sync Sharp PIM <-> KO/Pi?

If yes, was the event information ok in Sharp Pim after the Outlook <-> Sharp PIM sync?

Finally, I think it would be nice to have a primer on how to build the programs from source.  I downloaded the tarball on my RHEL system because I wasn't sure the SUSE RPM would run on RHEL 4.
Yeah I'll tell Zautrix.

There is already info how to compile.

That is strange.  So, you're saying that unzip IS installed at "/bin/unzip"?  Maybe I should switch from if [ -x "/bin/unzip"  ] to if [ -x "$(which unzip)" ], or something similar.
That'd be better, yes. Cacko decided it wouldn't handle wireless anymore, and combined with other problems I had, it made me want to reinstall, so I'm going to test again after that. I tried yesterday, and although the script seems correct, it still cannot find unzip. Very weird.
Have you actually run "which unzip" on your cacko box?  If so, what did it say ("/bin/unzip")?  If not, would you please run it and tell me what it says?  Also, it might be illuminating to run "ls -l" on it.

Thanks!

It didn't seem to matter where it was started.  It always ran out of memory on the Z.  I finally broke down and created a swap file on my ramdisk.  The problem is solved for now, though it bites not having all of my ramdisk available.  Yes, I could put swap on SD/CF, but I don't like the idea of doing that.  That's one area where the C3000 wins in my opinion, swapfile actually on a HD.

Now I have to figure out how to sync PIM/Pi to Outlook 2K3.  I'm disturbed by what I saw in a previous post.  One of the reasons I'm looking at moving PIM's is that my other Z doesn't sync to O2K3 anymore.  The sync GPF's, making it useless to my fiance.  Does sync from O2K3 to PIM/Pi require a working Intellisync link?

Few questions about this great little app, KA

I'm running 2.0.14

When I select "Show Jumpbar" under Settings, which I assume to be the alphabetized column on the right side that I used to see before I was forced to do a total software restore on my C1K, I can't get it to show up. Is that what the jumpbar is? If not can anyone tell me what it was that I was seeing?

What is the difference between filters and categories?

Is there any documentation available beyond the FAQs that are on the pi-sync.net site?

Thanks,

gdog

1) yes. cold-restart kapi to apply all settings.

2) a filter can be one, or several categories. (for example all "family" and "France" will get me the French side of my family). The filter functionality is fubar'ed for 3 reasons, though:
 - you can't create an effective "unfiled" filter (you have to exclude all categories instead of including none, so you have to modify your filter every time you add/import a new category)
 - you can't combine includes and excludes in one filter
 - the filter dropdown is dropped in portrait view by default. and enabling it in portrait screws up the search input field.

3) help menu?

Thanks ev1l.

1) Cold restart? Cycling the app doesn't seem to make a difference with the jumpbar. I can see font changes in this manner but not the jumpbar yet. I'll try just that and see if I can get it back, if a cycling of the app is what you mean. Or do you mean the X itself must be rebooted each time a KA change is made? Couldn't imagine that being the situation.

2) fubar aptly used for filtering/categories. Good idea though, especially the way you explained it. But I've never had such a powerful pim app such as that and categories alone would suffice for me.

3) I don't get help screens that actually help. They're pretty much self-evident explanations of what the icons are and don't really explain how to use or customize the app. Same goes for KO. And the documentation out on pi-sync's site is mostly about syncing. I'm looking for manual grade documenation on the functionality of the apps.

Funny thing is I'm on 2.1.14, which I don't even see out on the pi-sync site. Can't even recall where I got it. But I did have the jumpbar working before I was forced for other reasons to reset my device and restore from a backup.

I'll keep plugging away, hoping to get it back as it is a very useful feature.

Regards,

gdog

z.
Yes, I set up a repeating appt in MS Outlook 2003 to start Monday 6/13 and repeat daily at 8:00 ending on Sunday 6/19.  Then I synched with Sharp.  Then synched with KOPI.

The last event in the KOPI calendar is on 6/18 at 8:00 AM.  The Edit Recurrence Range panel shows Start Date 2005-06-13 and End by 2005-06-18.

I just fired up the Sharp calendar and it shows the event starting on 6/13 and End On 6/19.

No just close it, and deselect fastload in the shortcut properties. Then start it again.

I'm not quite sure I get your intent. If that helps any, default filters are created for ech category after each cold-restart.

Ah yes. Well we don't have that yet, so why don't yougo ahead and ask here, and I'm sure either Z or myself should be able to help. There's not much to put in a manual, IMHO, but ask away if youdisagree

You're on 2.0.14, which is actually quite old. Upgrdae to the latest suite, and try again.I must say i can't find a way to activate it either. Weird.

when it was available, (do we need it now?   )
I don't know what you mean it isn't listed at pi-sync...
It appears, unless in Changelog.

This might be a dumb question, but I've snagged myself on this one before so I'll throw it out there...

Have you selected a search field other than "All Fields"??  This is done using the drop-down at the far right of the tool bar, beside the search field and above the jump bar.  By default, after a restart, it comes up with "All Fields" and when that is selected the jump bar stays hidden.  This is because the jump bar requires a search field to work against and is therefore not usable when no search field is selected.

ray,
The only dumb question is the one that goes unasked.  You were right on the money, and that is exactly what the problem was.  I think that what's really behind some of the problems I am having with this app, as well as KO, beyond the lack of good documentation is that they are simply much more sophisticated than any other PIMs I've used on Palm, PPC, HPC, Linux on any of my many handhelds over the years, or even Outlook for that matter. Great apps, and I can't complain of the lack of documentation because after all they are free, but I can lament. Fortunately for folks like me, there're folks like you out there that are quicker on the uptake, and participate in boards like this one.

Thank you,

gdog
