Targus IR Keyboard Help
« on: March 15, 2004, 04:10:49 pm »
I recently bought the Targus Universal IR Keyboard. I tried getting it to work with my 5500 running OZ 3.2 without success. I installed the IRK package (0.10), I enabled IR on the Z, but my Z does not see the keyboard. There is no \"On\" or \"Power\" button on the keyboard so I assume the keyboard is on once the battery is installed?

I am able to use the Zaurus to communicate over IR with my computer, so the Zaurus IR port is OK. Perhaps I have a defective IR keyboard? What should I be looking for to check if the keyboard is working? Perhaps I need to modify IRK.conf?

I would appreciate any help or suggestion.

the on/off button is in the upper left hand corner of the keyboard.  When you have the keyboard closed it is off and when you have the keyboard open it is on.  Make sure that the little point it up otherwise it is not on.

I do not have a Z yet so I can not help you more then that.

I have a Targus Uni. on a 5500 with Sharp 3.1.  I loaded the IRK package and had no problem.
You\'re right that there\'s no on/off; when the keyboard is open, it\'s on.  There is, however, an on/off switch on the Targus settings.  When you choose Targus (from among the data entry choices), a settings bar should come up and the default is \"off\".  Choose \"on\" and it should work.  At least it does with Sharp3.1.

]I enabled IR on the Z

Turn off the IR software other than IRK.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I am now thinking that perhaps I did not install the IRK package correctly? The package I installed is called: irk-zaurus_0.10.0_arm.ipk

After installation, I did a ipkg files irk-zaurus which returned:
loading conf file /etc/ipkg.conf
loading conf file /etc/ipkg/arch.conf
Package irk-zaurus (0.10.0) is installed on root and has the following files:
/.
/etc/
/etc/lircd.conf
/opt/
/opt/Qtopia/
/opt/Qtopia/plugins/
/opt/Qtopia/plugins/inputmethods/
/opt/Qtopia/plugins/inputmethods/libirk.so
/opt/Qtopia/plugins/inputmethods/libirk.so.1
/opt/Qtopia/plugins/inputmethods/libirk.so.1.0
/opt/Qtopia/plugins/inputmethods/libirk.so.1.0.0
/home/
/home/root/
/home/root/Settings/
/home/root/Settings/IRK.conf

As you can see, there is no application installed. So I cannot get into the settings, or activate IRK.  Maybe I am missing a dependent package?

There is no application. IRK is an input method plugin - it installs into the Input Method selector (where the hardwriting recognition, pickboard, etc, are found).

Reboot your Zaurus, it\'ll probably show up afterwards.
