Rc10 Out For Testing..
« Reply #120 on: July 04, 2005, 12:34:53 pm »
Hi Laze, Hi all :-)

... any updates of pdaXrom or feeds in near future?

... because I want to make some experiments with kdepim/sync, gpsdrive and wlan ... maybe don't want to reflash if there's something new on pdaXrom ...

... is there any chance to rsync feed directory on this temporary rc10 server (your post this thread at beginning)?

Thanks for all the good work

What a fantastic ROM! I'm using a C1000 and have a couple of issues, however.

1. The right shift key doesn't work (won't capitalize or get symbols)
2. My ambicom wl-1100c connects to my ap (wep) without problems but I can't get it to work with kismet.
I've tried using the "hostap" driver as per the instructions I've seen on the forums but to no avail.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=84930\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I also see the shift key problem on my Akita.

Can't seem to mount my CF card (Lexar ATA Flash Card)

... I think that I not the only one waiting for some updates or notices about "what's going on pdaxrom releases / homepage" :-)

- Installed RC10 for Akita over the weekend, because attempting to upgrade the kernel whacked the whole system, anyway.  Nothing to lose!  (wink)

- First impression:  WOWZERS!!  This thing is visually very impressive, with a nice base bundle like the memory/cpu applet, battery meter that shows percentage, and other utilities.  Sweet!
- The controls are way tiny, but the "mouse" cursor follows the stylus around, making it much, much simpler to use those tiny controls.  It's daunting at first, but one quickly becomes very used to it.  Nicely done!
- The available app set looks great.

- BUT: The unit suspended (presumably for inactivity), and when I powered back up, the UI was utterly unresponsive.  The little cursor moved around, but nobody was listening.  Finally did a reset to get it back.
- A number of the dialogs run off the screen, and there's nothing that can be done about it.  They can be moved around if the title bar is visible, but the controls that run off the bottom are simply not available.  One dialog (don't recall which) was so large the title bar was well off the screen, so I couldn't even dismiss it.  Cancel/Ok had no effect ... I finally got it to go away, but I don't recall how.  I just tried things until it worked.  (wry grin)
- It appears to use lots of power.  My meter when from 100% to 85% in about thirty minutes, which is pretty stiff usage.  If the battery was only 85% to start with (a possibility, then it seems the battery meter shouldn't showed 100% to start with.  (shrug)
- After thirty minutes it crashed again.

- Final analysis: A for effort but far too unstable.  Recovered my virgin NAND backup and re-installed all my stuff lost in the kernel snafu.  Not a happy flashing weekend.  (sniffle)

Try solutions from this topic, maybe one of it helps you: Zaurus Ui Freezes If Suspended Too Long

My C860 is quite stable with the RC10; I had those kind of freezes, but they are gone. I think pdaXrom for Akita isn't mature yet, so keep trying; if nobody uses it, it won't be better.

You can move big app windows while holding down Alt (Address button, by default) and dragging the application anywhere.
This is about the 10th time I tell this on the forum, it's time to make a FAQ...

Without larger Akita userbase the release won't get stable, so I think anybody who thinks like "OMG, I like it, but unstable, I wait until it gets better" should think about using the rom for development reasons.

I have to agree, it is very nice.

I find that it does have a higher power consumption than the Sharp ROM, but I ahve not had it out and out crash on me.

Did have my 1 GB SanDisk SD card die over the weekend (need to make a trip to Costco to exchange it, less than a month old).

XMMS is a little flakey (takes for ever to start playing an MP3), but mplayer works well.

Haven't been able to get either of my CF memory cards to work either (Lexar 256 MB and IBM 1 GB MicroDrive).

I already killed 2 1Gb Sandisk SD cards. (in two months)
The last one I exchanged for a Sandisk 1Gb Ultra SD, I've been using this one for 6 months now, without any problems. I tried to use the 2Gb Ultra, but my C860 doesn't seem to recognize it.
Does anyone know whether this is hardware or software related ?

this has got to be the sweetest ROM for the Zaurus SL-C1000, period. Mix in a little ROX & ICEWM with multiple themes and VNC to my Mac so I can remote control itunes and I'm in heaven. So far everything has worked with this ROM and all the tips in this forum has helped a total newbie like myself to customize my C1000 till my hearts content.  Kudos to you all for creating a beautiful package and keep up the wonderfull work you guys are doing. Top notch!

Hi, I just installed RC10 Akita on my C1000 and I have come to this several bugs:

- I don't know why but each time the zaurus suspend the clock settings I have goes wrong when I return from suspend mode,

- I don't know if it's normal but I can't go into portrait mode

- I didn't manage to make my usblan to work I've got one with the Rtl8150 chip, the device lights are on which I suppose is a good thing but I can't ping to my router.
I've entered all the good settings in usb and in lan & wifi in system tools

apart from that it's working great, thanks for this release, so far it beats (for me) the sharp rom or OZ in terms of look, feeling and overall working apps.

Hi, I just installed RC10 Akita on my C1000 and I have come to this several bugs:

- I don't know why but each time the zaurus suspend the clock settings I have goes wrong when I return from suspend mode,

This is a problem related to the hardware clock not getting synchronised with the system clock during a suspend (or in fact ever) and also affects OpenZaurus (which I've just switched back from again ).

My solution was simply to set the hardware clock to the correct time with:

  # hwclock --systohc

however if you are using an ntp source then this needs to be done before every suspend to keep the clock accurate.

I had this problem initially, but then it went away - not sure what I did.

I couldn't get the USB to operate in anything apart from host mode when I last used pdaXrom, which was one of the reasons I gave OpenZaurus another go.

If someone has a fix for this I'd like to hear it!

???Ah ok, I don't think it's the same problem.
I want to use usb host to plug a usb-ethernet device, I don't want to use the usb-pc connection to act as a bridge.
For your problem, did you try to desactivate the usb host module (as in OZ 3.5.3 perhaps usb_ohci_pxa270)?

You can modify /usr/bin/apm to set the hardware clock before each suspend.  It also fixes the problem where Matchbox/Openbox can freeze after resuming due to the time shift.  See my post here: https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...indpost&p=88799

Thanks, JAm13's solution worked perfectly and as he said my portrait mode problem solved itself after a while so the only remaining problem is to connect my zaurus to the net via my usb-ethernet adaptater.
I installed the driver for it but now I don't what I should do now to make it work.

Also I tried to compile the flac plug-in for Xmms on my Fedora core 4, but it won't compile it if I don't have xmms installed. So I tried to compile Xmms and it said that I don't have Glib installed but I have the glib 2.0 installed I just don't have the glib-config file. Any ideas?
The flac encoder and decoder compiled well but  the plug-in just won't compile.
