It will not alarm in suspend mode, is this correct? Is there some way to have the device alarm regardless of state(on/suspend)?

Use the alarm applet. It's a bit bugged at the moment, though, and might crash when waking up from suspend.
So scratch that, don't use the applet, wait for the next stable version, and *then* use the applet. In the mean time you can sync with the sharp apps and have them ring instead.

Hi there ... I just installed ko/pi with alarm applet 2.2.2 and Z does not wake up from suspend.    

ideas?

Will the Sharp Calendar app continue to blink the LED when an appt has not been responded to and the Z is turned off?
