Hello,

I installed some extra icon-themes for xfce :
The screenshot shows "Gant for xfce" : I found it here. (it's big (16Mb) so you'd better install outside /)

I also use "Tango for xfce" (not as complete, but very nice) I found it here. (not as big - about 2Mb)

Having fun,
Chero.

Questions,

I'm setting up xfce4 beta and have ran into a few issues.  I've read through the posts here at least twice and haven't really seen answers, so here goes.

First, when applications are minimized they iconify to the desktop, which I don't want since there is that nice task bar.  Any way to disable this?

Second, menueditor is segment faulting when I try to make any changes.  I am using the default menu, and thought maybe the reason is you can not edit this, thus the segfault?  And if so where should I copy the default from to have a starting point for a custom.

And lastly (for now), what should I be using for general volume control, or is that even needed since most players have their own.

Thanks in advance,

Go to "settings - desktop settings", you can choose between "minimized apps" and "none".

This is a known xfce-bug, solved in xfce 4.4 rc1. I'm waiting for the final 4.4 release to compile and pack for pdaX.
For now, you can edit your menu using any editor (nedit, mc, ...).

Never needed it. I'll check if I can find a panel-plugin.
The other way : add a systray to your panel, then launch "volume control" (it's in "accessories").

Super, read that a dozen times and it never clicked.

Hopefully that will be soon, RC2 came out today I see.  Might hold off until final for any major customizing.

I tried adding the systray but the icons don't seem to show, but they are there.  If I click in the space the volume slider or cf/sd mount for example does pop up, so it is 'working'.  Finding out that like you, it doesn't seem to be a big deal though so not worried about it.

Thanks for all your work, except for tracking down some dependant ipk's this install went very well.  Looks like, as I thought to begin with, I'll be running Xfce from now on

My works fine.
However I've reinstalled beta1+xfce and now I have some problem...
Apm works only via hard button. If I do apm -s, then pdax doesn't resume.
Another prob is that I can't be able to map a key for the menu.
I use xfce-desktop - menu, but the menu popup on the mouse position, instead first I can reach to popup in the menu position, but I don't remember the command...

My battery plugin does. put the stylus on the desktop just above the plugin, slide to the battery icon et voila ...

I don't recall logout taking long, but I'm on r121 with xfce4.4rc2 now, so I can't test.

The about screen : perhaps it misses the info to put in it (I left out some files to cut down the size)

don't know about autorotate, anyone else ?

I know we should have a wiki page for this, but I'm running out of time. First I want to try meanies pdax for c3000. Running from HD could be a great advantage. When installing apps to external storage, it seems libs break sometimes (I've had this issue with xfce, tuxcards, kdepimpi, firefox, ...). That was one of the things I liked about OZ. Not to mention the fact that some apps just can't be installed on external storage.
If I can run xfce on the "full-hd-install" and gdm and bluetooth are working on it as well, next thing might be starting this wiki-page.
Then there is my wife, 2 kids, a non-9-to-5-job, the house I'm rebuilding, a 7.000m² garden, 2 dogs, some rabbits, goats and chickens, ... .

Have fun,
Chero.

[a href=\"http://www.karma-lab.net/zaurus/experimental/]ULHume's experimental feed[/url]

I thought beta2 was more stable then rc2 ... Maybe it's r121 ... don't know.

As far as I know these packages were compiled for r121. I don't know if they are OK for beta1/2/3 .

Just add the feed in package manager (browsing the page doesn't seem to show all packages)

Hi everyone

I've always been a big XFCE4 fan on the desktop platform, and I think I would love a PDA with XFCE4. Realistically though, I only have a c700, which I am sure is too slow to run XFCE4 and X apps at a decent speed. On more modern Zs though, how is the speed? Is it really usable for everyday work or is it more like a fun toy?

Runs great for every day use on my 3200.

Runs a little slow on my 6000.

I'm just using the panel with some plugins and the desktop for the menu however.  The full distribution runs okay, but it's a little heavy for my taste as far as daily needs go.  (The same can be said for my desktop computers as well, so it's really just a personal preference)

Depends entirely what you're trying to do.  That's a difficult question that I've been trying to answer for years now.  I'm still trying to answer this.

Hi there,

three questions are still open for me:

1.) i would like to change the links in the "xfce menu", especially because
some of my games and office-programs are now stored under "others".
How do i do that?

2.) second: i would like to have the "Menu"-Button on my Z working with
the "xfce-menu", so i havent to use my stylus to start a programm every time. Any clues what i have to change in the xmodmap-file?

3.) the icons of some programs like "rox" and "epdf" arent working. He shows
only the "red x"-icon.
one of the warnings (in xterm there are many of the same type listed):
Code: [Select]
(ROX-Filer:2165): Gtk-Warning **: Error loading icon: Couldn´t recognize the
image file format for file ´/usr/share/icons/Rodent/Scalable/stock/rox-show-details.svg´

Thx in advance,
Nico

- Hurm.  Loaded pdaXii13 5.4.4 and decided I really didn't like UI even a little bit.  Fortunately there *are* alternatives, and they're right on the feed, so I installed xfce4 and a bunch of plugins from the pdaXii13 feed that's listed in its package manager.

- It ran right out of the box, but it's in portrait and I see no obvious way to rotate.  Will xrandr do that?

- I also hacked Meanie's xinitrc to run like pdaXii13 expects, but it loads NO matchbox/openbox/anybox binaries of any kind, and it runs xfce4-session instead.  This works pretty much identically to the xinitrc.xfce4 that came with it ... takes a little longer to start up 'cause it's doing more, but it still runs xfce fine as you please, in portrait.  I'm pretty sure this is simple to fix but haven't found that simple solution after wandering around this thread.  Could someone clue me in?  Thanks!!

- I can run either the default matchbox/whatever X that pdaXii13 comes with, or I can run startxfce4 and run that.  Both are loaded and Hiroshi is set to boot to console so I can play with either one equally easily.  Right now it's running matchbox so I can have multiple command windows to mess with this.  (grin)  Once I get xfce in landscape I'll see about panels and suchlike to put things where I want them.
