Sorry if this has already been covered, but 16 pages is a lot to look through. I have XFCE4 4.2.2 and the battery plugin 0.4.0, but I can't find it when I right click on the panel and select 'Add new item'. Also, I can't use Fn+(other key) (this is kind of an issue when trying to log in here  ). A RAM/CPU usage plugin would also be nice. Is there a solution to any of these problems?

Thanks.

I had the same experience with battery plugin 0.4.0 and have gone back to 0.3.0.  Not sure what the problem is, but it just does not show up in the list for me.

On the Fn key issue this has been discussed [a href=\"https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=21361] HERE [/url], but without much luck.  I have managed to allocate Fn+(other key) commands by a combination of the the windows manger settings and manually editing the keythemes file.  Unfortunately, the settings do not seem to survive restarting xfce4.  Maybe this can be fixed somewhere in the .xinitric.xfce4 file, but I am too much of a newbie to have a clue where to start!
My new toy: C1000/pdaXrom/xfce4 and Rox - now I just have to get it all working!.

Other stuff: Axim x50v and a brace of Newtons....!

The battery plugin : 0.4 is for the 4.4 betas , 0.3 is for the 4.2.2 ipk. The panel has changed a lot from 4.2 to 4.4, so the plugins aren't compatible.

The fn-key :
Does fn-tap give you a right click ? I'm asking this to know whether the xmodmap file has been loaded. If it does, then you are talking about the "special fn-commands", otherwise you are missing a lot of keys.

Chero.
HP-95LX -> HP Jornada 680 -> SL-C860 -> SL-C3100 -> Fuji u810 -> SL-C1000 -> HTC uni -> SL-C860 -> SL-C760.
March 12 2009 : Back because the Zaurus is one of a kind.
SL-C760 : pdaXrom
Pandora pre-ordered -> received and tested : great device but not my cup of tea -> sold.

Hi there Chero,  thanks for the response and the great work.

Battery plugin - I thought that was probably the problem there!

Function key - Yes Fn+tap does give me a right click.  I changed my .xinitrc.xfce4 file to include the keymappings for the C1000 etc, so I also have the standard Fn+ commands (eg Fn+e gives me the = sign).  It is just the special function commands that I cannot get to "stick" after a restart.  It would be nice if there was a fix, but fortunately we have the two kanji keys and mapping them to the special commands (like setting screen brightness) does seem to stick.
My new toy: C1000/pdaXrom/xfce4 and Rox - now I just have to get it all working!.

Just so people know, with my SL-C750, I just added "|SL-C750" to the line that already contains "SL-C860|Sl-C760" in xinitrc.xfce4. These settings survived a reboot. Everything seems to work except fn+(number key here). For some reason those still don't work.

I thought that somebody might like to know this.

Hello to everyone...
I wish to install xfce onto the pdaxrom installation of my sl-c1000 but I made a root partition of 58 MB and after the installation of gaim only, I have 6 MB free.
Chero suggests to install xfce into internal memory but I ve only 6 MB free.
Shall I resize root parition or have you some advices for me?

The question I ask myself is why the pdaxrom installation suggests only 50 MB when after the installation you have only 7-8 mb free for the software.
Ok you can install the software in other places, but the other 2 partitions of flash , /home/
and /home /user ( I think ) can't be used to install software? I can't see them in ipkg.conf so I can think simply is not possible.
Why these 2 partitons are so big if we consider / is only 58 MB ?

Thanks to everyone

Well, I finally think that I have the 4.2.2 version of xfce4 running how I want it and am using it as my main WM now.

So I guess it is time to play around with the new 4.4 beta (  ), just wondering if any of the 4.2.2 plugins might work with the beta.

Anyone?

I thought that might be the case, still I think I will probably have a play around with the 4.4 beta anyway - I like the idea of maybe being able to do away with rox and using xfce alone with desktip icons.  I think you said that was possible somewhere in the thread, but I cannot find it now

For those who want to know :

Workflow I followed :

- flashed beta3 (yesterday)
- added the beta3 feed, the beta1 C7x0-860 feed and anunakin's feed to package manager (all on www.pdaxrom.org)
- installed gnumeric and gftp using the package manager
- installed vte using the package manager (need it for Terminal)
- downloaded and installed the xfce4-4.3.90.2 ipk
- downloaded and installed Terminal, libexo and thunar (from the parent dir)
- downloaded and installed xarchiver
- downloaded and installed xfce4-battery-plugin (and some others)

Then I startxfce4, try to launch Terminal but get an error : missing libxfce4util.so.2
I did :
Code: [Select]
ln -s /usr/lib/libxfce4util.so.0.0 /usr/lib/libxfce4util.so.2Then I tried to launch terminal again and it now works.
I right-clicked the panel and started adding plugins (same here, libxfce4util.so.2 is needed - I guess I'd better add it to the ipk    )

So, flashed and have xfce 4.4 beta2 running again after approx. 15 minutes.

Now I'll package the tango-theme, so it will look nice again.

Have fun,
Chero.

Don't know about c860 - maybe try xfce4-session from a terminal in open(match)box first.

Well, I have been busy loading my C1000 up with the new beta packages and so far have not had problems with any of them except the wavelan plug in which just does not show up in the list when I go to add a plugin.

****EDIT****

No wonder the wavlan plugin doesn't work - I just realised it is for the old version!

****EDIT****

At the moment I have the taksbar, orage clock, battery monitor, cpu graph, xfce menu running in the panel proper and the MatchBox volume control running in the sys tray.

I cannot be 100% sure, but this version does seem to be more of a memory hog than the old version.  Firefox, for example, seems to take even loooooonger than usual to load and Anunakin's[/b] latest freeciv ipk freezes after loading the startup screen whereas it will run in my MatchBox/rox setup (although I still have not worked out if you can play a single player game in it or not - but that is another story...).

All in all, very happy with the switch!
