i dont have any experience with 3100 (cuz i dont have one!) but on my 6000L i have rc11+xfce running just fine. i had some learning curve on getting the panel up on the rc10 and chero helped me out on it. basically:

1. install xfce if you install on SD then you will have to reinstall it on every boot, some link gets broken - so i install now on /
2. install the xfce panel menu plugin (link available in this thread) and other plugins as you need. all xfce stuff i install on / as otherwise i would get unpredictable behaviour.

for me the main trick was to install everything on /

also rc11 fixed some programs that didnt work on rc10 (like kdepim 2.1.17). all in all, xfce and rc11 works well. only thing is that the libstdcxx from the rc10 feed should be installed for most applications to work and install lesstif with -force-depends option as it has a dependency on xfree4.3 whereas rc11 has xfree 4.4

if you install applications from the net then please remember to change the feed that comes as default.

cheers

1. try shift+screen tap for the second mouse click. it works for me. Fn+screen tap doesnt work.

2. the panel in the screen shot is modified by adding some plugins and re-organizing. from what i can see, the screenshot has panel-menu, battery and system load plugins. to make the panel look like the one in the screenshot:

a) download all the required plugins (link somewhere in this forum, lemme know if you cant find it) and install them.

 do a right click on the empty area of menu (shift+tap), you will get a pop up which will have a 'add item' choice, select it and it opens a window with a list of plugins installed. select the one you want and repeat the procedure for all the plugins you want to add.

c) experiment to rearrange the menu as you like.

hope this helps.

cheers

this is really strange . i hope there is only one rc11/xfce out there!!!

i tried right clicking on any area of the panel and i still get an 'add item' in the menu which lets me add plugins. cant figure out how you are getting the 'add workspace' . try some other area of the panel.

good luck!

It's the menu you get when you middle-click on the desktop (shift-tap on my C860).

Right and middle click are configurable in 'input setup' utility.
I don't know where they are saved, but I do know the startxfce4 and xinitrc.xfce4 are based on the original startx and xintrc that were in RC9. CXX00 wasn't in the original files and therefore not in my scripts. (it chooses between CXX0 and 6000).
If someone could upload or PM me the original startx and .xinitrc of pdax on a CXX00, I'll try to look into it.

The default xmodmap file for C1000/C3000/C3100 is akita.xmodmap. If you compare startx and startx.xfce4, you'll notice that for startx.xfce4 'case $MODEL' section doesn't have these model. As a workaround, I added the followings and the 'Fn' key works again.

Code: [Select]
SL-C1000|SL-C3000|SL-C3100)
    test -f /etc/X11/kb/akita.xmodmap && xmodmap /etc/X11/kb/akita.xmodmap
   ;;

Hope this help.

Chero:
I had this problem last time I used xfce & I remembered the problem I had with RC10. The mbsession code has an error in it, sashz forgot to add the C750 model to the statement for loading the corgi.xmodmap. Since your xinitrc.xfce4 was based on RC 10 the code below:
Code: [Select]
MODEL=`cat /proc/deviceinfo/product`
echo 'MODEL:'$MODEL
case "$MODEL" in
    SL-C860|SL-C760)
    test -f /etc/X11/kb/corgi.xmodmap && xmodmap /etc/X11/kb/corgi.xmodmap
;;
should be:
Code: [Select]
MODEL=`cat /proc/deviceinfo/product`
echo 'MODEL:'$MODEL
case "$MODEL" in
    SL-C860|SL-C760|SL-C750)
    test -f /etc/X11/kb/corgi.xmodmap && xmodmap /etc/X11/kb/corgi.xmodmap
;
Obviously this only impacts C750 users - both of us

here are some nice screens of my xfce4 combinated with rox... i think it looks really nice.

... oh and excuse the horizontal lines in some pictures... i dont know why they exist (but they are not from the zaurus... i cannot see them there. maybe it is because of the screenshot application). and also excuse the jpg low-quality. also the screenshots appear a lot darker than it is on the zaurus itself.

To generalize what you wrote, you can even put these lines these lines taken from ~.xinitrc so that ALL users have the right keymap.

Code: [Select]
MODEL=`cat /proc/deviceinfo/product`
echo 'MODEL:'$MODEL
case "$MODEL" in
    SL-C860|SL-C760|SL-C750|SL-7500|SL-C700)

    test -f /etc/X11/kb/akita.xmodmap && xmodmap /etc/X11/kb/akita.xmodmap

    cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep 'Sharp-Collie' 2>/dev/null >/dev/null && test -f /etc/X11/kb/collie.xmodmap && xmodmap /etc/X11/kb/collie.xmodmap
