Slc3100 Roms?
« on: August 18, 2005, 05:44:41 pm »
New owner as of this week of a c3100 via Dynamism.
It comes with
the 1.01 JP ROM
Qtopia 1.5.4
Kernel 2.4.20.

I read about and followed links for the c3000 Sharp ROM upgrade to 1.11.
But apparently there is no similar upgrade for the c3100 (yet). I tried running the c3000 update just to see on my c3100 and it refused to update since it recognized it as a different model.

At this point what are my (stable) ROM options for the c3100?
Thanks!

I'm not really that knowledgeable about this kind of thing, but from what I understand there aren't any other options for the 3100 just yet. It's just a matter of time, though, and people are already saying that it will ultimately have wider support than the 3000 because the 1000 and 3100 both have 128MB of memory. I do know that you really shouldn't try installing ROMs made for other models unless you REALLY know what you're doing.

There is a "Fully Loaded/Fully English" ROM created by the fine people at trisoft.de.

You can find this rom at http://www.trisoft.de/en_c3100howto.htm

==== PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ROM IS A NAND FLASH IMAGE ====

Let me say that again, for emphasis

==== PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ROM IS A NAND FLASH IMAGE ====

So please read the documentation on the site.  The short form of how to flash this rom is as follows:

1) Unplug AC, remove the battery, the power supply, and any memory cards
2) Hold down the D and M keys on the keyboard and put the battery back in.
(HINT - don't let go until the service menu appears)
3) Slide the battery door switch into the ON (locked) position and plug in the AC adapter
4) Press "UP" twice on the keypad to get to page 3
5) Insert CF card and select "NAND Flash Restore" then press OK
6) Press OK twice to confirm after getting the "NAND Flash Restore from CF"

A green bar will go from left to right, then it will say "Restore OK" .. you can press cancel twice and then remove the AC and battery to reset the Zaurus.

it's not neccessary to use the NAND backup.
Get the startup guide and the normal backup set.
You will miss the nice splash screen, but the rest
will work fine (just follow the instructions "Localisation
after factory reset" in the manual).
