3.5.4RC1 on C3000 Quick Observations

General:
To enable SD/MMC support see this post from the ever-helpful lardman
No Sound. The 2.6 on Zaurus Status Page shows it as currently unsupported, even though the C3000 uses the same audio chip as the previous clamshell models
No 2.6-kernel USB modules/drivers. I got them from asm-nai's feed.

GPE:
Could not suspend: Pressing the on/off button once freezes the Zaurus temporarily; a second press takes the user back to the GPE login screen. apm --suspend gave device or resource busy. This occurs as both user and root. Unfortunately, this was a showstopper for me. Let me know what I can do to help troubleshoot this issue.

OPIE:
Opie suspends and resumes perfectly with the on/off button
Asks what to do with the internal Hitachi Microdrive upon first boot  . I hope I answered correctly when I selected Activate on Insertion and Activate on Resume. There do not appear to be any ill affects thus far...

I am glad to see that OpenZaurus 3.5.4 will debut a 2.6 kernel for the C3x00/C1000 machines. I am extremely pleased to see a bluetooth GUI included with Opie! Great job, guys!

Edbo:

could you paste "cardctl info" of that bilington card?
card applet does not use SD - only CF cards (its other applet that was in older releases)
collie (5500/5000) report 2 CF slots always - bug in kernel probably

Lurker:
sound on spitz is progressing - we got ALSA in development kernel but it need some work
kernel modules not provided because it's RC - only images and kernels provided to test does it works
'activate' option is proper one

Just tought I'd say that I've had no other microdrive corruption. The only "complain" I might have is about apps that don't scale on 480x640, most of the apps in facts, at least most of the games I play (shisensho, kcheckers, knights, ...). Good apps are for example sokoban and maki. But well, it's nothing compared to the usefulness of OZ in general, just a minor drawback...

(u)mount /media/card

Try running 'ipkg-link umount /media/card' first to get rid of the symlinks then umounting the card.

I just flashed my collie with the opie image, and moved root fs to an SD card. Works nice, so far, especially the suspend-by-cancel thing. I had the need to reset a few times, dunno why, it got stuck. I didn't manage to isolate it yet.

The only thing I saw that is annoying and (probably) easy to fix is with ntpdate: I had to disable the ipv6 kernel module for it to work. It was complaining about an IPV6_V6ONLY (IIRC) error.

Not that I need V6 on my Z, but having a working ntpdate by default would be nice.

Installed opie on tosa...

Noticed a few gotya's that I have not corrected yet.  Any help would be nice.

1. keymaps...  The numbers don't work.  they're in keymap-2.4
2. ntpdate... invalid protocol

# ntpdate pool.ntp.org
Looking for host pool.ntp.org and service ntp
host found : ns.itconnection.ru
19 Oct 18:35:12 ntpdate[2614]: setsockopt() IPV6_V6ONLY failed: Protocol not available

3. console...  keypad does not always work... have to reset

4. opie security pin plugin hangs with cf inserted

Tried gpe, but could not import my pim data.  Anybody know how?

Try to desactivate the ipv6 module (remove the "ipv6" file from /etc/modutils, run update-modules and then reboot, IIRC). It worked for me.

Hi. Wanted to report issues on the SL-C1000 with GPE :

* First, I'd like to point out something that puzzled me at first when booting (already reported by others)... the GPE startup screen, which stays for a while without any apparent activity... on laptops it's possible to guess if a machine is frozen looking at the HD activity led... on a zaurus, well... many users may wonder and reset it before waiting until the startup is actually completed. So yes, something telling what's happening would be great.

Something new that nobody seems to have reported :
* The arobase character is not active in the keyboard (Fn+- only inputs '-' instead of '@)

Apart from that, very impressed by this first experience with the SL-C1000 and GPE. Really looking forward to using the final release

Best regards

Try shift+-
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Thanks. it worked. Standard GPE feature or workaround ?

A couple more issues :

* under GPE, found no easy indication of the versions of OZ or GPE (if a version for GPE as a whole exists) which would help reporting bugs in the trackers as requested in [a href=\"http://openzaurus.org/wordpress/releases/354/]http://openzaurus.org/wordpress/releases/354/[/url] ... all I could find is going to the package manager for each individual application... The system info tool doesn't seem to report these (only build date and kernel version).

* In gpe-calendar, the dates displayed in the new event entry dialog are truncated, which is a bit confusing (already reported in http://handhelds.org/~bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1423)

* Couldn't find a way to access the list of active applications in the panel, somehow... all I can find is the top-left corner widget of the windows, or going in the "Active Tasks" drawer of the desktop... but this may be my inexperience with GPE for not finding the right applet to add to the panel maybe ? (using gnome on my desktop, but obviously it's not completely similar
Hope this helps.

Oz 3.5.4 Rc Bug & Work-around List

Hi,

Got an used SL-5600 last week from ebay and installed 3.5.4-RC couple days ago.
I am new to this so I cant tell if my reports on 4-RC are know bugs for wich there already exist workarounds.

Found bugs :

By holding the battery applet with the stylus the zaurus will hang most of the time.  Seems to happen only if I hold it too long.  It will switch to % or graphical display but then hangs.

Questions/recommendation :

In order to use WEP encription for wireless network, do I have to set the key to HEX on both the AP and the Z ?

Is it possble to map a button to rotate the screen ?  How ?

I've install kpacman from 3.5.1 from the feed ( some graphics glitch but very useable ) .  What would one do to create a script that would deactivate the home button before running kpacman and reactivate it once kpacman leaves.

May I suggest to get rid of the "task-*-*" package architecture.  That would provide finer control over installed application.  For exemple, in order to remove the citytime package, I would need to remove the task-opie-base-apps package

To help the new users, would it be possible to show a short message suggesting to run ipkg-link add  [package-name] if the -d option has been use ( ipkg-link mount /mnt/card/ does not work, or I did not use the right command ).

knights and phalanx works great on 3.5.4-RC, would be nice to have those apps that integrates well  in this release in the feeds lists.

feed .../3.5.3-snapshot/... is not a valid link.

If I do an ipkg upgrade, I get a message about libxine.  "Package libxine wants to install file /usr/lib/libxine..... but file is already provided by libxine1"

I have the pxa250 version, do I have to install another kernel or is the cache bug workaround disabled by default or do I have to enable by hand ?

This is a great site, community here is nice.  Keep up the good work !!!

Thank you

known - reported in OPIE

I have hex on AP and Z - never tried other way.

Why not from 3.5.3 feed? Home button thing - you can disable home button in whole opie only.

task-* packages are created to allow easy installing of software (flashed bootstrap and want opie - install task-opie-base to get minimal and etc)

Most of OZ 3.5.3 software will be in 3.5.4. And more of course

feed .../3.5.3-snapshot/... is not a valid link.

And 3.5.4-rc is not final release but test one.

You mixing 3.5.3 with 3.5.4-rc - many things were changed since that.

OZ kernels for 5600 are for pxa250 machines. We would provide pxa255 kernel too with OZ 3.5.4 release - it will be marked as such.

Why not from 3.5.3 feed?

Oh !  I see it now, I was searching for it in ../feed/games/ and I and no feeds for opie
Wonderfull

Dont know if its a bug, but after I added 3.5.3 opie feed, I did an update and opie-kpacman wasn't there.  But I could install it from the console.

I just found out that if I remove the task-* packages, it does not delete the pakages in it, so now I can remove opie-citytime, for instance, without getting a dependency error message ( it only hang, and I had to reset  )

Is the XScale cache bug workaround disabled ?  Can one cat "something" somewhere in /proc/ to enable/disable it ?

So far I find RC4 to be fairly usable.  But I can't talk for users with no knowledge of bash.  I've been using linux profesionaly for 6 years.  some googling of ipkg and I am on my own.

b.t.w. if theres anything I can do to help, tests or else, just ask, I'll be glad to do so

Thank you
