So you know, this is with an SL-6000 running pdaXrom rc10 (Kathrin)

I learned the hard way that running "shutdown -h now" on a 6000 might not be a good move at this stage in the game. I couldn't get the Z to start up again. No orange light would come on when I plugged it in either. I did the following to get it to work:

1. Unplug the Zaurus.
2. Take the big battery out of the back.
3. Keep the backup battery switch on.
4. Short the terminals that were connecting to the battery with a penny.
5. Poke the Z with a couple of reset button bushings.
6. Pack battery back in and secure it with the two switches.
7. Plug it back in. If the orange light comes on, you're golden.

I shutdown my Zaurus quite regularly, especially before putting my spare battery in or flashing a new ROM. Maybe it's different for the SL-6000 but on my C760 all I have to do is remove the AC power and battery for a couple of seconds and then it turns on fine.

I have used shutdown -h a few times and I have, nor would I ever ... short battery terminals
to get it working again.

SD cards?! Hell, I'll sacrifice a chicken if it gets THEM to be reliable.

Bigtime bump here.. but just letting you know.

I just ran into this problem with my C1000.
Latest build of pdaxrom, just installed last night.
I ran a shutdown -h now this morning, came back from work and the thing was dead as a doornail. I didn't have to short anything though, I just had to remove the battery for a little bit and throw it back in..

Did I miss something here? Is the on/off switch a softbutton, and does the Z stop listening when it's completely halted? Hmm, who can shed some light here?

Yes that's right, this has nothing to do with pdaXrom, it's just a "feature" of the Zaurus hardware. If you can read Japanese you should find reference to it in the manual as it's obviously also an issue with the factory Sharp ROM.

I have an SL6000 (currently RC12) and have always had a similar issue. Whenever you shut it down ('halt' from the command line), it always takes some time before it will start again. Doesn't seem to matter what you do, it won't respond immediately. After a minute or so of cursing and pressing buttons it starts up again fine. Sequence or which buttons doesn't really seem to matter. And the on/off button needs holding for a lot longer to start the Zaurus than to suspend or resume.

Has never bothered me much because I only ever shut it down when I reflash.

Yes, I was a litle "scared" when I first got my SL-6000 and experienced this. I can
confirm it appears to be a HW issue, as it seems to occur on the stock ROM. I posted

Wasn't it a good feeling when pdaXrom started booting again, after the light blinked?

I thought I would have to reflash to get by the softbutton woes. Fortunately, it came back up as expected, into my beautiful, bloat-free pdaxrom.

I think what I love about pdaxrom's default setup after using it for a few days, is that it is built almost exactly how I used to build a Linux installation years ago. Before the days of 4GB default installations on major distros, before the days of stupid uneccesary packages, services that you'll never use, and idiotic package management tools throwing dependencies all over the place.

It's clean, simple, fast, and marvelous. I was going to just throw a bare kernel on the Z and build from the ground up as I normally do, but now I don't have to go through the trouble of tweaking everything to the Z's specs.

I just felt I had to hijack the thread for a moment to give a golf clap to our development team and everyone making all the packages up.

I second your golf clap. It is refreshing to work with a clean linux install.
And sorry for the digression but can someone tell me how to properly suspend from the command line in a TTY? (i.e. not in X)
