C1000: Which Rom Would Best Fit To My Needs?
« on: November 24, 2005, 06:09:18 am »
Few days ago got shiny C1000. With original rom, my bluetooth was not supported.  Switched to Cacko 1.23, and now wlan is not working. So I'd like to know which rom would best fit to my needs:

- I have C1000, Dlink dcf-660W, and planning to get some CF bluetooth (something which is available)
- Ineed ssh, web browser and some simple spreadsheet and email (ssl+imap, smtp+ssl+auth)
- I would like to have X support, for some future needs

So which rom would best fit for my needs?

or you can tell maslovsky about your wireless problem.  He may have a solution.  Checkout the cacko release thread.

You can then install the xqt jumbo package to satisfy your X needs.
I'm now an iphone user and use my zaurii as serial terminals, perl and shell scripting and when I need 640x480 screens

Is this enough to tell?

https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=16264

Made even bug, and got back 'works for me':

http://bryandeluca.com/cacko/bugs/bug.php?op=show&bugid=67

Basicly, now I need to install some other rom to be sure my HW is ok. And while installing some other rom, experiimenting something which would best fit my needs would be good idea

well both pdaxrom and OZ have X GUIs so take your choice.  Since you are in an experimental mood, I guess you could try both.

edit: I see someone has a possible solution in that other thread

For web browsing, I like Opera and Netfront on Cacko as they seem better suited for my use than firefox, but your mileage may vary.

For every other requirement, particularly X, I'd probably try pdaxrom.  My experiments with OZ were not positive, but that's probably because I needed more hand-holding than is currently available

Using X/Qt and Debian work on the Cacko/Sharp roms, but I'm not yet convinced that that's an "elegant" way to do things, and I do wonder if a bit of streamlining is possible.  Again, I'm probably showing my ignorance or lack of patience there!

Either way, it won't take you long to evaluate what suits your needs best.  Good luck, and report back - others will be interested.

No, I'm not experimental mood at all, I would like easy and fast way to get everything working. Unfortunately upgrading FW is not possible. prism2_srec does not work unless kernel driver is talking properly with card. And my problem it isn't, so back to square 1. Maybe I try OZ.

bluedevils: don't spread FUD please... OZ 3.2 is history

To upgrade firmware proper drivers are needed (with Enabled firmware uploading). We (OE/OZ team) decided to not release such as default because it's too easy to break card with them.

I can provide drivers with uploading enabled for any OZ 3.5.4-rc supported device.
OpenZaurus 3.5.4x Release Manager
OpenEmbedded, Ångström, Poky developer
My website

Misc embedded hardware.

Ok, got my firmware updated, and cacko works for me. So no experimenting with roms today!

Thanks for correcting me.  I was not spreading FUD as I have nothing against OZ.  I support all ROMs.  The fact is I came across an old post where someone was having similar problems with OZ.  I am grateful that someone with more insight can enlighten us to the solution.
