Z Freeze When Unsuspend And Resume
« on: December 20, 2005, 08:55:35 pm »
Ok, I'd like to check with anyone who is running kopi. I'm running the one that was posted in This thread.

Does your Z lock up if you suspend, then quickly resume again straight away (IE, within about 5 seconds).?

If I close everything but kopi (and its a kopi with events and alarms in it, not a blank one), my Z does this. Does it every time. I just hit suspend button, wait for the screen to go black, then hit the button again... screen comes on, everything is locked up (can't move mouse, can't ctrl-alt-backspace).

If I open LOTS of other apps, but not kopi, then it works fine.

Interestingly, if I run kopi, suspend, then wait at least 60 seconds, then resume, its ok.

This behaviour occurs under both matchbox (openbox) and xfce4

Edit
I have a C860 running RC12

Same version of kopi works fine for me under both matchbox and xfce4. I do have the occasional lock-up (unknown cause) in matchbox where I can still move the mouse, but no clicking and no key presses recognised. In these instances I just plug in to USB, ssh in and kill X.

I have an SL6000 with RC12.

Is your Z using the apmsleep system to wake itself up at a later time?

I was using that, and yes, it locks up if you don't count to 30 after you suspend it.

I ditched the whole apmsleep thing and started using the atd that sash compiled for us. Now my Z goes to sleep with apm instead of apmsleep, and it is back to working perfectly.

There are several threads on this.

See this thread:

https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=16455

The beginning starts with the "apmsleep" method, that uses wakeup.d That is the method that causes the problem you have for me.

Toward the end, Sash brings out an atd program that I started using to wake the Z up, and now everything is wonderful.

Yep, using apmsleep. I'll check out atd. Means rewriting /etc/apm/wakeup.d <sigh> since I prefer to have something modular than hardcoded in /usr/bin/apm
