What Are Task-* Packages For?
« on: January 24, 2006, 03:01:50 pm »
Does anyone know what the task-* packages are used for?  I wanted to remove openswan but package manager complains that task-bootstrap depends on it.  I don't want to break anything so I didn't remove openswan.  But it seems pretty strange that it can be removed so easily.

They are "meta" packages which are only there to enforce installation of related applications on which they depend. But they don't provide in themselves any programs.
Just a way to warn users against removing necessary base programs, for instance
Zaurus SL-C1000 - OpenZaurus 3.5.4.1-alpha1 w/ GPE image (some packages "custom made", compiled at home from bitbake+openembedded)
