Cacko On C3000 And Symbol Wifi
« on: February 02, 2006, 08:38:18 pm »
I posted this in the model specific forums but i have not recieved any help yet. I thought maybe posting in another forum might help. Here was my original post:

Hello,
I have a C3000 with the 1.23 beta version of cacko installed. I am attempting to get the symbol wifi card to work. I have seen a topic on this before but i was unable to find it when I searched. if anyone could outline the steps I need to take in order to get the symbol wifi card working with the Cacko rom on a C3000, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks
-Mark

Also when i plug in the CF wifi card the activity light flickers but no matter how i try to configure it the green power/activity light will not come on so i know it is not configured properly. Thanks.

Support for symbol in cacko 1.23 isn't the same as cacko for sl-c3000 beta1.

Try this:

- Configure a connection as ethernet.

- Assign essid and key with iwconfig in a terminal.

- Give me your feedback.
SL-C1000 ( Cacko-Rom 1.23 ) + SL-C3100 ( Cacko-Rom 1.23 )

PCMCIA 2G disk Toshiba, USB charger self-made,
USB BLuetooth,

Cacko On C3000 And Symbol Wifi

Thanks, I actually figured it out by following the instrucitons below. The only thing that is different with the C3kb1 is that the Internet wizard is not installed so it does not work. The wifi card is working now on my home setup I just hope it will work up at school when i dont always know the SSID. Thanks

OK, to update my sleepy last post -

The trick to get the Spectrum24 Card to work on the C1000 was to follow these directons first

To get the Symbol Wireless Networker working with the C3000:

Quote
Enter these commands into the terminal:
su
cd /home/etc/pcmcia
vi spectrum.conf

Delete the # from the begining of the second line
Enter a # at the beginning of the third line
Save the changes
Reboot

You can replace the reboot with this command as su in terminal
/etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia restart

The reinsert your wireless card into the Zaurus.

Next in the Network app - select the wizard and " LAN Card" and do a detect and click yes onto the end - this will add a "Common LAN Card" to the settings (and not a Wireless LAN Card) - strange as it may seem but the LAN card at least brings to life the wireless card and I can see some light activity on the card.

To get connected with your wireless access point (even with WEP enabled)
go to terminal and enter the command

iwconfig eth0 essid "xxxxxxx" key <key code in hex>

Now you can click onthe globe connect button and say connect using the Common LAN card and lo and behold - its actually connects to the wireless internet.
