c860 wont connect to apple airport
« on: February 16, 2004, 01:12:27 pm »
subject says it all - I have tried both a d-link 660w and a linksys wcf12 to no avail. have tried every config i can think of (wep, no wep, closed, changed network name). every time the light goes solid for awhile and the network app says initializing ` then it disoccnects.

i can connect to other wifi access points just fine  - just not my apple snow airport. i have used this airport with mac os 9, os x, windows xp, 2000 and ce.net with no problems

any thoughts?[/img]

Hi,

I did get my C760 and D-Link 660W to work with my AirPort.

So it is possible....

Don\'t have it now...so can\'t check my settings for you...

Sorry about that, but again it should work...

still having problems - have tried both the linksys wcf12 and the dlink 660w, standard 860 Rom and the latest Cacko/QT, plus a couple of other kernels - still nothing. I\'ve connected to all sorts of other access points - just not my Airport - beginning to suspect that the latest firmware upgrade a couple of months ago from Apple has problems - have read of other Snow Airport users having a variety of issues after they upgraded the firmware.

Have you tried connecting other devices (ie. other pda, or laptop) to the Airport. Maybe it is the firmware.

Here\'s a suggestion if you dont have any other device to connect to the Airport:

If you want you can go buy USB wifi card from ecost.com (I just got it recently) it\'s free after rebate

http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail.asp?DPNo=345833

free shipping but they charge approx. $3-4 handling fee..

as I said in my original post, I\'ve connected many different devices with my Apple airport over the years and still do - the issue is specific to my 860 and prism2 based wifi cards running the sharp or cacko roms and kernels - it just will not connect.

so the question is, has anyone else seen this issue? if you are able to use a c7xx to connect to an Apple airport with a recent dlink or linksys CF wifi card, could you tell me the model and firmware level of your airport?

thanks -

the only airports that I have come across are in CompUSA and the Apple store..

maybe you can go to the Apple store and see if you can connect there. If you can connect then see if hte employees can help you with your situation. Ask them what firmware they\'re running.

Get the hex code password from the airport if you are using WEP, and type that in.

from the console, do iwconfig to see if it can find the airport (essid).  Also, it will act like you said if you are doing DHCP and the airport isn\'t

I can connect to mine without problems, but I did have to have all the config stuff matching.

One final note - remove any /var/state/dhcp/* or maybe /var/run/dhcp* files (or reboot) and try again.  A stale lease has bitten me before.

Check in your Airport if you can setup the Preamble, Maybe its Short Preamble, The usual standard only support long Prenamble (probably a RF setting). Thats the only suggestion i have atm

I have/had the hex key in.... which authentication should I use?
Which network type? does the channel matter? I have the Snow base station. When I do the iwconfig it says
lo   no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions

what do I do gotta try the preamble thing too, but so far no cigar...thanks everyone for your help

sincerely,
TJ
