I live in china but i won't buy the Z for a mere electronic dictionary. It is too heavy for that. Its price will not be acceptable in too short a time while people are satisfied with much cheaper but better supported sl-7500.

Just take a look at chinese ebay or taobao, then you'll know how big a market Dell and HP PPCs share. I don't believe that Sharp will enjoy a big market in china while Palm and WM are serving the purposes of english learners so well.
It is not a good idea for Sharp aiming solely at chinese market.

Hi,
If the Zaurus release follow the same order that last year, we could see a new model in June,
but I don't know why they didn't increase the RAM, I mean 64Mb is not enough,
even for the apps. that they offer.

By the way, the new Zaurus' color is ugly.

Best Regards.
Daniel.

In a word (or two) - power consumption.

64MB is sufficient for most people (those at whom the devices are aimed anyway, not us), and most people are more worried about battery life than whether they can <insert very memory hungry usage here>.

more than likely it has to do with 6GB supplies and creating a little update to the 3100 product.  I hope that this is because the 3100 is doing decent business and they are milking the design until they can r&d a new zaurus.
I'm now an iphone user and use my zaurii as serial terminals, perl and shell scripting and when I need 640x480 screens

It'll be interesting to see if the kernel has any updates. Too bad the Japanese don't want internal Wifi & BT

An 800x480 screen would have been nice...

Im suprised that they only went to 6GB when they could have got 10 or 12GBs (i am aware of the technical limitations)

Are these Chinese models significantly cheaper than the "original" Zauri?[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=117363\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Not when I went to an electronics market in Beijing, unfortunately - but that was a while back. I don't know if things have changed much since.

Also, there were relatively few places selling them.

pfft.  I can pop a bigger drive in my 3100 and be happy.  At least I won't be getting any gear envy from people with the 3200

Unless there is something we don't know yet.

Does anyone know whether any of the applications have been updated (Netfront, Opera, Hancom Suite, Video Player, Music Player, etc) ?

I seriously doubt the kernel has been updated though.

This picture says "SL-C3300" ?
It looks like a SL-C3100 to me, but the thread is about SL-C3200. Am I missing something ?

edit : ok, it's the screen.

One (and only) good thing about this release is that ROM people won't have to worry about porting anything. Having said that, I as a user am so annoyed with this release that I'm ready to jump ship (but still have the same problem - what to buy instead of my 860? I don't see any other non-sharp device out there that is comparable and none of the Zaurus releases after 860 took anything off from my wishlist - which includes screen size, better battery life, memory, and built-in bluetooth - improve on 2 out of those 4 and at this point I would be happy to upgrade). The problem is that for what Sharp wants people to use this device (dictionary/translation applications on steroids) none of these improvements are necessary - except maybe better screen performance outdoors. Actually, even if they would be able to put in bigger hard drive (ie 20gig) and no other improvements I could maybe consider it as it would at least allow me to retire ipod so I would have one fewer device to carry around.
At this point however, my money is on Jobs to come out with some neat small osx based tablet that of course runs ilife suite etc (and hopefully is not crippled to prevent us from opening terminal).

If anyone from China/HK finds one of those English-learning (ie SL-C3200) Zaurus somewhere, could they please post its price here ?

All my reports and testing were made (if no other mention given) on SL-C1000
