Wtd: Sl-5500 Screen
« on: June 14, 2006, 07:45:13 pm »
I just to my horror discovered my Zaurus SL-5500 has got a big crack in the screen

The touchscreen doesn't work, but the screen works, if that makes sense.

Need to find a replacement screen if possible?

Thanks,

Kelly

I read elsewhere here that a Dell Axim 3 screen would fit/work, but how to do this/source it I don't know.

I've consigned my Zaurus to the 'fix when time/parts/money permits' pile of stuff for now.

Still, on better news, I've just ordered a C860 Zaurus, so it isn't all bad for me

Great work

I'm not sure if it is worth the cost of a new screen tbh (I've not much money (only afforded the C860 because my parents gave me some money for my birthday recently)).

But if you go ahead and do it, post on the forum or the wiki or something?

Thanks,

Kelly

Hmm,

Looking at the link on that site to the touch screen, it might be I only need the glass top, not the entire screen as I do get a proper image, just no ability to touch with the stylus.

yep same with mine the touch screen is an outer separate glas screen. mine cracked while i had it in my pocket. all you have to do is remove the touch digitizer and replace it.

It's a shame the screens are $40. As the Zaurus SL-5500 isn't really that much more to buy second hand.

Doesn't help that I'm in the UK, so shipping would be a pain too.

Just pick up another Zaurus on ebay, and turn the old one into a webserver or audio server.

If you have keyboard and screen but no touchpanel, you can install OZ/Bootstrap and add just enough packages for a music player or something. |shrugs|
Cortana: PXA250/Poodle: OZ/GPE 3.4.2RC1
Tycho PXA270/HTC_Universal WM5  .30.107/1.09.00/42.42.P8/1.30.162
HollyWatch: Fossil AU5005 - POS 4.1.2
ATLANTIS: Fujitsu Lifebook T4210 TBPC2005

Yes, that is exactly what I have done. Really just asked here on the off chance someone had a working screen laying around they'd part with.

It'll make a great little console tool really. Maybe combined with a CF serial port card...
