Hi,

I'm just curious on which text editor everyone is using and mainly on cacko 1.23?

I know vi is on it but is anyone using anything else?

Sure!
I prefer nano as a simple command line editor ( [a href=\"http://www.hermocom.com/en/download]http://www.hermocom.com/en/download[/url] ) and I prefer the editor coming with Tree!Explorer QT Plus (Tree!Text QT) as a graphical editor.
I do not do much programming with them, mostly email, shell scripts and contif files.
For programming certainly an editor with decent syntax highlighting etc. is the better choice.

On a similar note, "microemacs" is mentioned on the software matrix (https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Distributions), and I have seen reference to Xemacs in the pdaXrom list. However, you don't hear much about GNU-Emacs on this board. Does anyone have a success story to report with GNU-Emacs? How is the speed? Usability with ctrl sequences?

I use Zeditor for editing conf files and general text files.
I'm not a programmer, just an enduser.
So I have no need for the advanced features of other text editors out there.
BTW, Zeditor is much better than the default editor that comes with Cacko or Sharp ROMs.

I also use Zeditor right now though I may use other stuffs if I start coding on the Z directly in future.

I often find it useful to have several editors open for different tasks.

Unfortunately HancomMobileWord is *still* the only "editor" for the C860 that I know of which even reads RTF & even more unfortunately will NOT write RTF.

Hi,

Well I typically use the full GNU Emacs on pdaXrom, with no problems.

For the past few days, on the SHARP ROM on 5500, I have been using micro emacs.
It took a while to get used to, and I did no customization, nor do I know how.

I was frustrated at first, since it took a lot of trial and error to figure out what
key combinations it was looking for. Some observations that might help folks:

The BACKSPACE key deletes the character AT the cursor, not what I expected.

In order to delete the character to the left of the cursor, use SHIFT-FN-H

It seems most control characters require SHIFT and FN together, but
not all for some reason. To save, SHIFT-FN-X then SHIFT-FN-S. But
to exit, SHIFT-FN-X and FN-C.

I typically do not use the SHARP ROM, but I'm looking at it again, and since
is so stable, and some very interesting efforts like pdaXqtrom are appearing,
which provide a lot of power and flexibility, while maintaining the stability and
"no surprises" experiences of running under the SHARP ROM.

I believe this is because Shift-FN is control, except for cut and paste (ctrl - c / ctrl - v) which have been abbreviated because they're used so much.

English version of what? This is the current CSV full Emacs, and obviously, it's in English.
