jpmatrix:

iczer3 has already posted the solution to that problem. To be more verbose:

With an empty CF slot, do a D+B boot, login then type

mount /dev/hda1 /hdd1

mkdir /hdd1/media/realroot

reboot

pdaxrom should then boot as normal

Dear Danboid,

Tetsu's kernel works fine if you reboot with a flash card in CF slot.
That is, force internal hdd -> hdc. Then all cf functions are OK.

Can you advise where I can get the mplayer with bvdd so that
I could test bvdd function ?

BR,

Felix.

the new initrd.bin file fixes this.

i will be updating hdimage-base.tgz and uploading hdimage-full.tgz in a day or so. in the meantime, i have removed hdimage-custom.tgz, as for mplayer, try this one:

Hi Meanie!

Good to hear you've got some new initrd.bin files on the way!

I have tried that mplayer ipk you linked to- that is the one I found to have the best performance as it worked very well with full screen bvdd under the last beta release but it isn't working properly under pdaxii13. I have tried it under the b2 kernel/core hdimage both with and without the bvdd module loaded and with exactly the same mplayer.conf settings as you recommended on your pdaX customisations page but all I get is a small, vertically aligned video picture to the left of the screen. It looks like qvga support isn't working but I've not had the chance to try quake or zpsx out yet under the console so I dunno for sure about that.

I found another bug too. Under the b2 kernel with the core hdimage the keyboard stops responding after a while and I have to restart X to get it working again- it still works under the non-X console though.

Could you please include your Openbox custom configuration in the core image?

Thanks!

dan

I've just tried psx4all_pdaxrom out on the b2/core pdaxii13 and, just like mplayer, I get a squashed up little qvga display in the corner of the screen. qvga certainly seems to be non op under this set up.

since we are still in alpha testing stage, there is no upgrade per say. however, upgrading the kernel/initrd image is separate from upgrading the hdd image. both can be done independantly from each other. when you install hdimage, it reformats your first partition. if you have more partitions and your data is located on those, then they are left alone

reboot option is a new feature in pdaXii13-full

some apps don't put their desktop files in the right place or don't have one and thus won't appear on the menu. you need to copy the desktop file from /usr/local/share/applications to /usr/share/applications if it was misplaced there, or create one yourself using one of the existing desktop files as an example.

i will need to check the display issue.

on another good note, I got suspend working by pressing just the On/Off button as well now and I got accessx enabled by default so you now have the sticky key functionality enabled by default.

Dear Meanie,

to get mplayer working, you need 2 files besides the tetsu kernel.
Atty's bvdd.o file and his libSDL file. put atty's bvdd to replace the
one in /lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/video. Then libSDL-1.2-0.so.0.0.5
is put in /usr/lib and run ldconfig.

Install meanie's mplayer ipk and run as :
mplayer2 -vo bvdd <your file>.

Felix.

You'd think so, as its the 3rd partition, but there is no hda3 on my Z. I've not got the Z here but

hda1 = 1GB ext3 /
hda2 (I think) = 256MB swap
hda4 = fat32, whatever space was left

When I was using fdisk I only created primary partitions, made sure the types were set correctly and the fat partition was created as primary #3 but still ended up as hda4 regardless. Has nobody else had fdisk do this to them? Is it just a case of me editing usbfunction.py and changing any hda3s to hda4s? I'll probably reformat when Meanie releases the new initrds and hdimages so maybe I'll use use Meanies formatting option next time to see if USB storage link works then.

I had another i/o error this morning when trying to get bvdd working again. I installed atty's bvdd package but it gave me the 'not an ELF file' error when I rebooted and it was trying to load the bvdd module. So then I tried moving the bvdd.o into the modules/.../drivers/video dir and thats when I got my i/o error, trying to view that dir after I've moved attys bvdd over the older, non-functional bvdd.o. Is this why people say to not install the bvdd package but extract the bvdd.o file from it and then move into into the modules dir? I hope the next release will come with attys bvdd and sdl as standard.

I never did find out what a 'rank b' sector type is when you use the D+M boot key combo to check the Microdrive for errors. All my MDs sectors were either rank A or B and I'm presuming that a B sector is still OK.
