Wired Lan Suggestions
« on: December 04, 2006, 08:02:54 pm »
I am looking at getting wired LAN for my Zaurus in some way, either a CF card or a USB dongle. I am looking for feed back as to what works and how well under Beta 3.

Thanks!
SL-C750- pdaXrom beta 1 (mostly unused)
Current distro: Gentoo

If you're looking for a wired ethernet card, I'm currently using a Kingston Compact I/O Ethernet Adapter (model CIO10T) on beta3 right now.  I had to pull it out of my Z just now to get the model number, so I know it's working for me.  No unusual setup issues that I recall.  Unfortunately, I believe it's now discontinued and I have no idea if they are readily available.
Device: SL-C3200 running pdaXii13v2 build 5.5.0
Networking: Symbol Spectrum24 WLAN card; Kingston CIO10T CF NIC
Storage: 4GB Transcend 150x SD; 16GB Transcend 133x CF; 4GB Seagate CF HDD; 4GB Patriot SD
HID: Logitech V450 Laser Mouse; generic silicone USB keyboard; 2 generic optical mice; stock plastic stylus
GPS: generic "UT-41" USB GPS Receiver
Case: neoprene case from my old Palm foldable keyboard

I have a Socket "low power ethernet" card. Works well. The only downside is that it's a very tight fit and it tries to break my thumbnail off when I need to take it out again.

There's a thread somewhere on this forum about usb ethernet adaptors, I'm not sure if there is a definitive working/not working list, but I've been tempted to pickup a cheapie off ebay for a while now to see if it works. It's a lot less of a gamble than splashing out on a CF lan card

I got a no-name USB 10/100Mbps Ethernet dongle of Ebay and have been using it regularily for months - just needed the rtl8150.o module (can't remember if that came with pdaxrom or I installed it later) and a powered USB hub.
SL-C3000(Spitz) - pdaXii13 5.5alpha + sound enhanced kernel - MD in 1 great big partition -  Ambicom CF Wifi + USB Ethernet  and NOW Zubuntu on a 4Gb SD

The dongle doesn't work without a powered hub? I guess that would probably rule it out, as I don't have one. It would also be nice to be able to use it with my C750.

The socket card looks really nice, but it is expensive, and I can't find the Kingston one.

Thanks for all of your suggestions, and I'm looking forward to hearing more!

i use one of the no name made in china usb dongles which use the rtl8150.o module. it just works and does not require a powered hub.
