theKompany ROM and system info app
« on: March 23, 2004, 03:52:17 pm »
I have gone from the standard Sharp ROM to the Zenergy5600 ROM and now to theKompany ROM. I like everything about it so far, except that the System Info application does not work. When I tap it, the icon changes to the \"you\'ve tapped me\" version, an hourglass appears in the taskbar and then it goes away. After that nothing happens.

I have a SL5600 with a 512MB SD card and a 1GB CF hard drive installed. I haven\'t added any software except fdisk and VNC server.
SL-5600 running theKompany ROM v1.1
SanDisk 512 MB SD Card (only 375MB working)
Hitachi 1 GB Microdrive CF Card
Linksys 802.11b Wireless CF Card

Never mind. I read that this ROM replaced the standard system info with Opie Sysinfo. So, I installed libopie1 and it now works. Seems like that should be part of the ROM itself, but don\'t look a free ROM in the mouth.

OK, maybe not. I had tried installing the package opie-sysinfo also. That failed and the error suggested I check depenedancies. That\'s how I came to install libopie1 and get it working. I noticed that my failed install of opie-sysinfo was still listed as installed, so to clean things up, I removed it. That broke sysinfo again. So, maybe it\'s not the libopie that\'s missing, maybe it\'s something else, and installing opie-sysinfo (errors and all) fixes it. I don\'t really know, but did an ipkg remove/install on opie-sysinfo and things are working again. I\'m going to leave it alone this time.

I have been trying to download theKompany.rom but the link in the Kompany homepage (referencing to a sharp server) is broken.  Could you please tell me if there is an alternate server that I can download the latest theKompany.rom from ?

You can find them here https://www.oesf.org/commu...roms/index.html which is after you drill down from here https://www.oesf.org/commu....230/index.html  This link is also on the main page of this site just in case you lose your bookmark or something down the road.

Thank you very much.  I downloaded and successfully installed it last weekend.  The only application that was missing was the voice recorder and had to purchase theVOX from theKompany.  All four application that I purchased from theKompany works just fine on theKompany.rom.  Had to modify the /dev/dsp1 to /dev/dsp for theVOX to work.

I felt I should update this.  The related icon was missing and therefore I was under the impression that the application was not installed or removed by the installation of theKompany.rom.  The related application name is voicerec and it was there (installed when I did install the related applications related package).  Creating/downloading an icon and using it to invoke the application was simple.
Hope this proves helpful for other theKompany.rom users on 5600.
