Am I missing something or what? I think this was a used 3200. Couldn't one buy this for much less new?

Eh?

Have you got a link or some proof of that? It doesn't make any sense when I got a c3100 in perfect condition off ebay for £215 just over a month ago.

Unfortunately Ebay took it down shortly after it was won. Oddly, the bidding went from around $300 USD to over $2200, then was won for $2247! No intermediate bids. I was sniping on this up to the last minute and saw it happen. You'll have to take my word. Seemed fishy to me.

Apparently there has been several cases where laptop auctions have been "attacked" by crazy bids from bogus accounts. The winner of course never pays up.  It seems it is to discourage competition.

I was planning on posting the link then I noticed ebay pulled the plug on it... but here is a copy of the "Bidding ended" email

sometimes it's vigilante action, when someone things that the sellers is a scammer they use throw-away accounts to bid

other times its revenge on someone who reneged on a deal

eBay will contact buyers and sellers if they think a certain auction is fradulent or are tipped off as such.

I say it's a scam buyer.
