I downloaded 53 short video clips on playing poker.
These are Quicktime format clips.
In kino2 in Cacko 1.23 on my C3100, the clip just displays a black screen.
Zplayer has same results as above.
Running mplayer in a console, displays the clip sideways, with no sound and with numbers running thru it.
I tried converting it to *.avi with RAD video tools, but it gets cropped too much, and the quality drops too much.
The below clip is a short tutorial about a poker player's reaction when he/she gets a full house on the draw.
I had to zip it up because the forum won't let me post a *.mov file.
This clip plays fine on a desktop PC in Firefox, and with Quicktime player.
This clip is 240x180.

I ran it again in the console. It's requesting an audio format that is not available.

Requested audio codec family [qdmc] (afm=qtaudio) not available.
Enable it at compilation.
Cannot find codec for audio format 0x434D4451.Also the console says:
96 audio and 216 video codecs
It also says:
Read DOCS/HTML/en/codecs.html (Where do I find this "codecs.html")?
I haven't a clue as to how to compile stuff, can't I just place the audio codec in my path somewhere?
(That is if I can find the right codec).

EDIT:
I just loaded this video on my Palm and used TCPMP. It has this error:
Error:
Player video codec
(Sorenson video1) not supported by the player!

The codecs.html page probably got stripped out of the package.

I tried watching it on my Ubuntu box, but it didn't have any sound, so I'm assuming it won't work on the Z, but I may get around to it later.

It seems like most all videos just work in windows, and if they don't, Firefox or media player downloads the codecs for you.
I don't download protected videos.
I download a lot of tutorials, and this kind of video would seem to be a perfect video to play on a Zaurus for 2 reasons.
1. It's portable and you can view the tutorial anywhere.
2. Most tutorials are low bitrate video, small in size, and with mono sound at low bitrate.

it uses a Sorenson codec which is a proprietary codec which apple licensed a long time ago and is not allowed to distribute as opensource. hence the codec plugins for this particular codec can only be distributed in compiled binaries by apple and of course only on those platforms that apple supports...

plus, mplayer on zaurus are all statically linked, ie no plugins can be added dynamically, they have to be compiled in and you cannot compile in windows plugins....

My 5500 w/ Qtopia 2.12 played it without sound.  Green haze to the bottom of the vid though.  

The C1k played it through Kino without sound too.  Then it locked up my Z when I tried to cancel it.  The default movie player wouldn't even recognize it.

To heck with Apple and their proprietary crud. I decided to fiddle with RAD video tools and got it converted to Xvid.
It also includes the sound, an absolute necessity in tutorials.
I'll have to play around with it some more to get a better looking video.
240x180 is postage stamp size on a Zaurus, so I scaled it up to 480x360 (2X)
Only problem now, there are a lot of artifacts in the video. I need to experiment with this some more.
RAD tools also has a "Batch" feature.

BTW, almost all tutorial videos that I find on the net seem to be some kind of Quicktime format, and must be converted, or they don't play at all on the Zaurus.

quicktime can also be a container for h.264, but a lot of people use the Sorensen codec for ease of use.


BTW, it played fine on SuSE10.1/X86-32 with mplayer-1.0pre8, so the codec must be part of standard package with the the packman or guru build.
