did you try adding SP7?
also, the output of dmesg would be helpful...

I am having a similar problem with a socket card which I believe uses the spectrum drivers.  I have installed the firmware and SP7,

dmesg gives:
pcmcia: registering new device pcmcia1.0
spectrum_cs: Unknown symbol free_orinocodev
spectrum_cs: Unknown symbol hermes_struct_init
spectrum_cs: Unknown symbol hermes_init
spectrum_cs: Unknown symbol hermes_docmd_wait
spectrum_cs: Unknown symbol orinocco_interrupt
spectrum_cs: Unknown symbol _orinoco_down
spectrum_cs: Unknown symbol alloc_orinocodev

pccardctl status 1 gives
3.3V 16-bt PC Card
Subdevice 0 (function 0) [unbound]

It looks from this like something is going wrong with calling the driver so the card doesn't  get attached...

that's a bug in r198's kernel. Since it wrongly assigns the external cf card to device 1, it also does not properly initialize it. try ejecting and reinserting it (using pccardctrl, not physically) to force it to reinitialize the card and load the hostap driver for it.

I tried:
pccardctl eject 1
pccardctl insert 1

same errors in dmesg
Fushnchupsh also seems to have the same problem... although he said that his card worked before installing the service packs!

Thanks for all the help Meanie!
