Who Maintains Gpe?
« on: April 26, 2007, 07:44:16 am »
I reported a bug to bugzilla.handhelds.org which was ignored for a while and then assigned "orphaned": Bug 1762

I would like report more bugs in OZ/GPE, but where do I go? Should I file bugs against the OpenEmbedded package? (The bugs are in the GPE GUI.)

Nice! I recently wondered why gpe.handhelds.org was so old and the project appeared to be dead. It would be great if someone at handhelds.org could set a link...

The GPE people actually had made a link, but the handhelds.org admin removed it. Due to that kind of fascist admins most people don't want anything todo with handhelds.org anymore.

It's too bad, because it's confusing to have two separate pages for the same thing.

when I tried GPE on my Tosa, I quite liked the clean look... but the dearth of GPE apps was not so impressive, a shame because it seems to have a good core.

Where to report bugs in OZ/GPE?

There is a bugtracker at linuxtogo.org but bugs in OZ 3.5.4.1 could have been fixed by GPE developers after OZ was released.

There is a bugtracker at openembedded.org but reporters of OZ related bugs are requested to try Angstrom first. However, Angstrom doesn't really seem to be quite ready, yet.

So, where do I go?

well, it looks like you need read the copious documentation in the angstrom wiki at http://www.linuxtogo.org/gowiki/Angstrom , become an expert yourself so you can develop it and fix what's required, then update the documentation.

it's only software, how hard can it be!!!

jan and speculatrix, it really depends on the device you own.  Some have been in daily use with Ångström for years (spitz AKA SL-c3000), others just recently joined the band (collie AKA SL-5500).  Some devices are wide-spread among devs and the general public, some less so.  So it is quite natural to assume a very diverse state of device support in Ångström.

If you want to test things out, you should be prepared to flash your device and often more than once.  Take the installation instructions from OZ as a basis together with the Ångström files.  Go through the meta bugs in OE which we use to cluster related bugs.  You are very welcome to add your own, test old OZ bugs and generally get busy with testing.

One good advice is to use altboot to boot images from HD, SD or CF without touching the main Ångström install to save on reflashing all the time.

Can I use Altboot from OZ3.5.4.1 to boot into Angstrom without flashing?

Probably, although I never tried.

What device, what kernel?

And now the most important question, will you write up a howto when you are done? (better wiki is in the works)
