The most complete Information on the 6000 I have found...
Very intresting, Talkes about Using the USB Host, Drivers are going to need to be compiled it sounds like for many usb items. Sound like that it will be easier to add drivers in the PDAXROM for usb items. Has Great Pics, Similar to offroadgeeks pics he took.

Check this out...

I am still kinda debating on weather to go with 860 or 6000...

Any comments on these articles?

ok, there is one thing that may bug me quite a bit. The 6000 is HUGE!

Bigger than the 5500 perhaps, but the screen must be amazing. Actually I wouldn\'t mind too much having a slightly bigger Z, as long as I can still fit it in most pockets. In fact the extra length might make it nicer for typing on the keyboard.

I wonder what the button with the dot does. Second standby button perhaps? There\'s a separate standby button on the left (finally! combining Cancel and On/Off was so silly).

The cover hinge has been moved away from the corners so I guess it won\'t break if you drop it on a top corner.

Shame it will cost so much, even when/if it is released outside of Japan  A Linux PDA really should be cheaper than a similarly specced Pocket PC because there\'s no Micro$oft tax.

But there is no similarly specced Pocket PC as yet around.
The screen of the Zaurus is worth the additional taxes taht Sharp charges, but the main factor is I guess volume sales.

If a Linux PDA like the Zaurus does catch on and sells like POcketPC\'s (provided Sharp makes an effort) then prices might come down a lot.

Metal9966 - the extra screen size does make a big difference for prolonged power use. And I guess for people who might consider using the 6000 as a laptop replacement - its not so much that the Zaurus 6000 is so much more bigger than the other PDA\'s, but its so much more smaller than the general laptops that people lug around.
so its all perspective.

I\'d like to find a way to use an external keyboard with the 6000 in landscape mode comfortably.  The 6000 has so many connectivity options (bluetooth, USB, IR, serial) that there\'s bound to be a convenient solution.  Then, you can use the thumbboard for quick note taking, and still use it like a laptop replacement when sitting down.  The biggest challenge I see is figuring out how to mount the Zaurus in a stable position where the screen is tilted at a comfortable viewing angle.

I\'m glad to see the 6000 has a thin battery and a flat backside.  The 5600 was awkward in that regard.

I am wanting to see if a USB keyboard will work on it. Like one of those rubber keyboards that you can roll up. When It finally gets to the states there will be much testing and driver writing to be done I assume. PDAXROM should work on this right? Maby with a few modifications?

Linux certainly supports USB keyboards, so its very likely the Zaurus will as well, unless Sharp supplies a severely limited host driver.

Well, One question... When is the 6000 going to be released in the US? Do any Sharp guys read the ZUG?

That site makes it sound like the 6000 is not aimed at general consumers... which makes sense, given its size and ruggedized, non-streamlined design.  He claims that the 6000 will only be offered online (or, at least, not through major retailers here in Japan).  Of course, things might be different if/when it makes it to the States.

As was mentioned in another thread, there is a rumor that Sharp will be announcing a new C-series Zaurus on March 17 (next Wednesday).  Again, this is just a rumor.

A USB keyboard should work with the 6000. In theory compiling the USB drivers if they do not already exist should not be a problem. The only snag might be the mini-USB socket on the 6000.

As for a similarly specced PocketPC, what about the Toshiba e805 for $521: http://www.bargainpda.com/price/default.as...lay=priceDetail ?
(There is already a hack to run all apps in full VGA resolution)

Not that I want a Pocket PC... I hate the GUI...

Yeah, I also saw the C970 mentioned at

. But why isn´t some information available about this device, when the official announcment is in 5 days?
