I'm still using my even humbler SL5000. It does what I need it to but I am definitely feeling a bit left out these days...

Will those work on an SL5000D?

When I need something compiled for my sl5500, I can usually find someone willing to do it for me, even for my ancient ROM 2.38.  But it does take a bit of cajoling.

For example, the html syntax checker, tidy, was ported for Sharp ROM.  Poke around my software directory at:

You just have to have friends with sl5500's who don't mind porting stuff.  It's not easy, but not impossible, to make happen.

I was in a rush when I put up that other post, but did have a lot more to say.

Yes, it is a drag the big-name developers are not very interested in the collie or our older sibling, the sl5000.  But they do know we have to be considered, as the attempts of angstrom and pdaXrom developers illustrate.

And, there also are those of us who continue to do a lot to make our collie's more versatile.  I continue writing scripts that, when I get them polished enough, I publish so others can use them.  I just haven't seen enough interest in what I'm doing to work real hard at cleaning many of my personal scripts up for publishing, but I do keep that goal in mind as I write.  See my scripts section at:

Most of the scripts I have been working on have to do with resolving networking and dialup issues using a CF modem.

But more interest has been shown in the how-to's and tutorials I've worked on, so that's where I've been putting more energy.

Well, I like to be one of those obsoletes.

I bougth my SL-5500 after having a C-3200, and the collie seems very useful to me for daily use. In fact, almost any C-3200 software runs on it. Not as fast than in the new model, but fast enough. It's a great machine.

There are a lot of resources but hard to found rigth when they are needed.

People like antikx, are making an effort to maintain the information referred, for example, to SD compatibility.

It's possible that some more work could be done to set up a lot of information that is messed and hard to find at the forum, as well as all the stuff related that people has shown in this post. Perhaps, something like Meanie's z3book.

It's hard to sail along hundred links.

This is just an opinion.

Antikx is also working on a comprehensive handbook for all Zaurii.  A daunting task, but he is aware of the need, and those of us who can are doing our best to help.

Not sure what you mean by a hundred links.  I don't like lots of never-ending referral urls to go to either, and do my best to annotate whatever suggestions I make.

I have chosen to write as much as I can on selected topics and put up web pages about them.  Then when I see that what I've written might help someone out, I say "go read this" so I can save typing so much over and over, and the person gets more information.

What kind of hard-to-find resources are you referring to?

I have expended some time looking for 2G SD on collie information. After looking a lot for it, finally I find the answer by a PM from a forum mate.

I read many, many posts, to find out that I was repeating topic steps already done.

Sometimes the hood don't let me see the tree.

Not sure what you mean by " the hood don't let me see the tree", but I know what you mean about searching for answers.  It's hard work, whether you search here or use google.

All I can say is that the more of us who write up what we've learned, clearly and consicely, that we think might help others avoid the same grief, the better.  That's what I try to do with my sites, and just hope people who need the information can find it via google.

That's where contributions to Antikx's handbook are critical.  We are using the wiki there to collaborate our knowledge, but it has a long way to go.

For this holidays I've decided to read deeply the forum, and also reorganize all the information that I have been taking last months.

Ah, from España!  You do know about the Spanish subforum here and Mimeca's Spanish forum at http://www.innerzaurus.com/CMS/ I hope.  My impression was quite a few people there also use sl5500's.

I generally ignore language issues except when someone asks me a question directly that I do not understand.  Figure you'd rather explain your question than get no answer to it.

It is an Unix machine and depends what you want and which level of exploration you are heading.

Normal user
  - PIM and good MP3 player should be good enough

Advancde user (like me)
  - Purchase some commercial packages, like Neocal, Tkc Player, to enhance its performance
  - Add high capacilty CF drive
  - Install ZBedic to store Wikipedia, English dictionary
  - Make use of unix commands for system and network tasks.
  - Install Zgcc to facilitate python and PyQt programming
  - Use VisiScript as my IDE for python programming
  - Use Porta-Base as database application
  - Install VNC sever for remote access

In short, it is not an obsolete machine which you can put it in good use and it is really a very reliable hardware to date.
