Hi,

I never tried beta1 on my C860 so I don't know if R197 is better but everything I need works fine on R197 (with SP8).

I think it is worth trying.

Cheers, Jan

What is sp8 and where do I find it?

See this thread: https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=24057

If you read it through to the end it has all of the service packs (1 through 8 -- some of the original service packs before SP8 might have been removed, I'm not sure, but you should only need SP8). They're designed to fix some oddities in r197/198.

Hi,

when I first installed R197, SP8 was already available, so I haven't tried another combination. Here is howto install:

I already had R121 with uboot installed, so I didn't have to reinstall uboot. But that's what you should have to do first.
Make NAND backup.
Go into "emergency boot" by disconnecting all power sources + battery and holding "OK" for some time while plugging power back in.
Insert cf/sd card, go to /mnt/[card|cf]/ and run ./install .
Install SP8 (ipkg install)
Install what you need (I wrote a script to install things like rox, gnumeric, kopi/kapi, wpa_supplicant, firefox, wellenreiter, ...)

I use gnumeric, kapi/kopi, firefox and mplayer a lot and I found no real problems in R197, it's stable for me.

Cheers, Jan

I am not sure what to do with updating uboot, I cannot seem to find anything newer than what is installed, the uboot with r197.

Anything I am missing?

Ok I now have r197+sp8 on my C860, but.....

I cannot get my cf wifi(dcf-660w) setup, no settings are applied/kept.  This makes my Zaurus next to useless for my purposes.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance,

Go to the last page of the package announcement thread and get my FLTK package. Then, go to the new wireless config tool thread and download wlanconfig2-2_0.1_armv5tel.ipk and install that. Run wlanconfig2-2, and you will have an ugly but functional GUI to set up your wireless. The original config tool is broken.

EDIT: Oh, and run 'wlanconfig2-2 help' to get a list of commands (there is a CLI mode as well, as well as simple on and off commands).

I tried wlanconfig2 but it was not successful for me, it showed me as connected but there was no dns, I had put my dns server in the resolv.conf but still no net.

Looks like I am going to beta1 with pdaxqtrom or angstrom or....I wish something would just work.

Have you tried iwconfig and ifconfig? You may be able to get it to work with those. You may need to run dhcpcd <interface> too.

Could you PM me the details of your network setup/wlat you did with wlanconfig2-2? I'll try to fix it.

Hi Capn, I got the wireless up a minute ago, but still no dns.

I will try editing the resolv.conf again....after dinner!

Thanks for persevering with me,

Diesel1.
