I was just about to post that! I don't need 40GB, though. I have barely used 1 on my SD and MD combined currently.

I've been playing with encoding video to play on my n800 and zaurus, so that I can strap one to the headrest in my car and let my son (nearly 4) watch videos on a long journey, and at any reasonable quality a ripped DVD is 100's of MB, so this 40G is not actually so crazy!

or, 40GB would be enough to store pretty much all the mp3 files I regularly listen to, so it'd possible to use any Z (7xx,8xx,1000,3xxx or 6000) as a damn good mp3 jukebox especially in the car! my previous idea for that was to get a wireless NAS (Asus made one) using wireless with ad-hoc for a file share of 80GB drive of sounds, but suddenly you need no external drive!

So far as I can tell, they're just normal CF microdrives with a much larger capacity, so I would assume they would work. The huge solid-state cards work, so I don't think the capacity would be an issue.

IF the kernel recognizes it, this would be a good trade out for my A-data. dunno though- thinking about doing a new desktop..

my guess is they will do both, versions for OEMS to integrate into camcorders and media players which will be deliberately locked down, and ones with full CF and IDE/ATA compatibility. naturally we'll only find out the hard way

According to Samsung's news release, this new Spinpoint A1 measures 42.8 x 36.4 x 5.0 mm, whereas the official datasheet from Hitachi gives this dimensions for the microdrives: 40 x 30 x 5.0 mm

Will it fit in the Z?

For me, a 40gb SD would be more useful as I need the CF slot for wifi. But then again, I've not been using wifi on my Z for quite awhile.

I saw that on engadget that Panasonic's 32GB sdhc card is announced, so maybe one day that'll be less than US$ouch!

According to wikipedia, the standard dimensions for the CF Type II cards are 43×36×5 mm, thus making these microdrives compatible with CF Type II slots (what the Zaurii have).

I was wondering if the connectors are compatible, though. Meaning, will we be able to use these? Power consumption and all that are also a concern.
