Help In Compiling?
« on: December 24, 2005, 12:18:32 am »
Hello everyone..
I couldn't wait for the next release of pdaxrom for sl5500..
And I'm desperately need a video player for my zaurus.. though other distro have it.. i think pdaxrom is the best and i don't like the qtopia interface nor opie.

I tried to cross compile Mplayer using the cross compiling sdk given in the rc10/Zaurus-collie but it couldn't work. It just simply said "Illegal Instruction"

So now i am trying to compile in the zaurus itself. I got the gcc and gcc-headers from the feed (It is a really large package)  Mplayer and xine-lib is stuck when compiling on the "libavcodec" section. The funny thing is, I made sure i had disabled the feature during configure but it still tries to compile.

Now i am trying to compile ffmpeg as i think vlc needs it. I have successfully compiled it, but i can't "make install" because it lacks the "/usr/bin/install" program in zaurus.

I have tried to use the packages from other distro, but it needs qtopia or got some other dependency problem.

So.. can anyone help me?

"install" is part of coreutils, I don't know if it's one of the ipk, but it is probably in
the zgcc image.

read  this thread https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=16438

which is about compiling for the 5500 (and which contains info on using the cross compile installing the image etc..).

The illegall instruction you  get is when you run the compiled mplayer?
where did you get the soruce for the mplayer you tried to compile?

thanks for giving the link.

the mplayer is proberly the latest one.. which is v1.0pre7try2

the illegal instruction occurs even when i just simply type 'mplayer --help'
that's was some time ago.. i will try recompiling again, now on zaurus itself.

I compiled mplayer and vlc with the help of the pdaxrom-builder:

http://mail.pdaxrom.org/contrib/Zaurus-5000D-5500/

but I have no way to test these packages...

the illegal instruction happend coz the app is compiled for iWMMX cpu (PXA270+) so you can`t use that.
just search for mplayer compiled for C7xx/C8xx/C6000 or use the link above.

i managed to compile mplayer for my sl-5500 but it's really too slow and kludgy for playing videos, imho...

anyone who wants ought to be able to find the mplayer binary and libmad here: http://static.webng.com/zaurus.html

i just signed up with webng.com for free hosting. i hope the link lasts.
